Replacing Windows

I am a homeowner and currently getting estimates to replace my exsisting double hung windows with vinyl windows. I got an estimate using the Simonton Reflections 5500 Series. The contractor quote includes removing the vinyl siding. Is it better to remove the siding vs putting the window in the exsisting opening?

Removing and reinstalling the siding to put in new windows with nailing fins and pan is usally the better way to go. This will more than likely require new interior trim and keep viewable glass close to what you have now.Some old window frames are not best suited for inserts, but if they are it often makes financial sense to go this route.Both methods will be fine if done correctly.

Todd nailed the answer.

If you want to post up some pictures, you will probably get a more exact and specific answer to your application.

That being said, pulling the siding and going nail flange is never a bad idea.
