I got started in mosaics just as you did. I learned stained glass, then as a way to use scraps, got into mosaics.
I exclusively use glass in all my projects. I don't know where to send you for step by step instructions but this forum is a great place to get advice and inspiration.

Welcome, Icheer! Would love to see some of your stained glass work. www.inlandcraft.com has some nice pdf file instructional booklets for stained glass and, I believe, mosaics. Also check out Dawn Marie Zimmerman's website as she gives some detailed instructions on moasicing. Several of the online glass shops have instructional guides or tips. Let us know what you decide to do.

Check out your local library under "outdoor mosaics" or your book stores..I have found lots of great stuff there....hey...where are your pictures of the glass projects you have already done!!!!?????

Welcome ,the more the merrier...I started using some glass when i found these wonderful women......I always used tile or china ,it's easier for me but the glass is such pretty colors I'm determined to start using it more.lot's of mosaic books using glass at the stained glass shop.

first off welcome and second I think you will find that most of us use glass on any and everything we walk arround looking for things to stick glass to I like having perfect squares sometimes but I do use alot of odd shaped scraps too stained glass scraps are perfect for mosaicing so have fun and post pics so we can oogle

Hi Icheer Welcome!!

I am with the rest. Just start sticking it down. I use silicone to stick it with for inside projects. I have not done any outside projects yet. Well I started a sink and that is as far as it got. I do seal wood when sticking glass to it especially if I am using light colors of glass and want the back ground to be light I use white as a sealer to bring more light into the glass. Just be sure to stick it down well not allowing places for the grout to creep under because it will show from the front if light colored glass.

Have fun with it. Lots of us mix glass and china.

Any suggestions on easy first projects that require minimal glass scraps? I have about 8 mason jars full of scraps in a rainbow of colors.

Stepping stone?Flower pot? Some of the ladies have done cinderblock pedistals for plants. And of course the bowling ball. there are a gazillion..well, a lot, of ideas out there

Icheer, photo frames can be purchased at Michael's for $1.00. Those are real simple and a good way to explore mosaics. I usually spray paint mine first on front and back, then apply the glass. You can put a small mirror in them and put them anywhere in the house or give as gifts. Check out the website below for an idea of photo frames.

Hey ICHEER! Welcome! Right now I can say I ONLY do mosaics with stained glass, though I have started breaking some plates to give that a try. I know NOTHING about "doing" stained glass, ie leaded. I just love COLOR! Have fun with it. Sounds like you have a ready made supply of material to last a little while. GE II and you're ready to go!

Hubby was just reading this thread over my shoulder and said "we need a bird bath". I had to LOL and explain that a bird bath is QUITE an ambitious project for a newbie :-) He just chuckled and said "fine, do a picture frame first, and then we need a bird bath." Gotta love the man and his faith in my ability!

Welcome Icheer, I agree with everyone else, just start glueing glass on something, anything! You'll be surprised how fast you can finish your first project and get ready for your second!
