Just noticed the typo in my title. Note to self - must wear glasses while typing.

I have a book that has some instructions on doing an angel firescreen and a phoenix rising from the ashes. They specifically say they are for decorative purposes. MDF is used. However, if you can mosaic a fireplace, then you could probably come up with some way to do a screen that would hold up pretty well. Although there is always some type of brick, or other stone between the mosaic and the fire. Could you call a local fireplace shop-where they sell gas logs and other fire accoutrements? Maybe they could give some info. Not sure you can make a mosaic screen that would also be functional. Please let us know if you get additional info.

I've seen screens done in stained glass but they are for when the fireplace is not in use. I've been considering doing one for my gas fireplace as it never gets used and so it's wasted space so to speak, so maybe an attractive fireplace screen to look at would be nice!!! I've been seeing those fan type ones around and thinking of glueing blues and purples like a peacock tail!!!

Glass crafters has an awesome stained glass screen form, that could be used for a mosiac gog too. So I'm thinking it would work, but maybe not one right in front of the fire, like the built in ones. I only wish I had a fireplace in this house to re-do!!!
