Masking or blue painter's tape over the pattern before nipping keeps all those pieces where they belong.

Just a tip I learned early on.

I've learned so much more on this peacock I'm doing!! I learned that thick black marker should not be used as it makes your pcs to need lead came instead of realllllly thick solder!lol! And to remember a pattern that's meant for lead should be carefully redone for copperfoil...hmmm, oh, and don't hold onto the wire you are applying the solder iron to! lol! I'm trying to think of an easier softer way to cut out this wisteria pcs, as they are only about the size of a pinky nail and all a different shape!!! grrrr.... I was thinking of using my glass nippers and then tumbling the glass and what ever works out to be a reasonable facimile will be foiled and soldered together!? Cheating? Well, I never claimed to be a perfectionist!lol! The easyist fastest way for me!!! I'm even rethinking this Riana method and the newspaper stuffing seems like a good idea more and more!!!

I tried the tape on the plates before nipping, and it didn't work for me. It kept me from getting the exact cuts that I wanted. But, I forgot to mention this before - if I'm going to STORE the nipped plate, I do put tape across the back of the pieces to keep them together.

Nice - are you finding that the placement of the tesserae is QUICKER when you're keeping the pattern together? I think that's a real plus, too....you're not hunting for the right size and shape of the next piece....

Yes absolutely quicker UNTIL the shape of the object distorts your pattern and you begin "building" your own pattern... eeeeeeehhhhhh oh well, it will be simple when I get to the tray and am working flat. I'll start a wip post so you can see what I mean
