My delectable china shards

I am getting ready for my upcoming projects, so since I was adding more color to some china pieces I already had, I thought I would photograph them and share them with you all, and hope to inspire those that want to work with china.

I am 'inspired' by the link posted by Zone Envy, and would like to find a clawfoot bathtub planter, something or other, to mosaic using my colorful collection. I cut up some of Lynn's china and added it to the large tray of shards, so it will add color. I am going to add larger pieces of reds, oranges, and some glass as well. I am almost there.

The other tray consists of my precious, roses, focals, etc, all cut from Royal Albert, Mt. Clemens, Knowles, Paragon, Meissen, Triumph, Saxton, to name a few.

Well you certainly have me drooling w/envy. SO ORGANIZED too. What a delightful array of tesserae. You can't help but have a success w/so many beautiful pieces. Go girlie!

The 3.5 lbs of misc. shards, I am saving to use on an outdoor substrate, not sure what yet, bench, galvanized watering can (which I have- old 1940's or earlier). Sometimes I like to just throw things in a color burst fashion, as opposed to recreating the actual plate. Because you can get funky this way with your piece.

Now the china roses and focals, are going to be for an indoor wooden tray. I purchased a very old 'serve breakfast in bed' type of vintage large tray from eBay, in original apple green paint. The legs fold on the underside. I will only be applying the mosaic to the actual flat serving part of the tray. If you are familiar with art noveau style, that is what I will be doing. The largest focal you see blue w/ florals will be in the center, and the two matching smaller rose florals will be to each side. I have 'edge' tiles cut from plates that had 'roped' edges. Sort of like pie crust. They will go around those focals, then I will add more noveau styling, possibly some plate design as you may have seen in the other photo album, and eye balling this project, I would say I have enough china to cover the 24" length tray. If not, I will use stained glass in matching pastels to fill. They are the same height, so they will blend easily.

Hi Mdunkin! So glad my post inspired you to share your pics! I really like to see what everyone is using for their mosaics. I can't wait to see your projects, they sound wonderful.
Your china is beautiful and it all looks so perfectly cut. I'm still too chicken to try cutting up my yellow rose china, lol. I'm gonna have to practice on some plates that I don't like so much. I picked up a beautiful little antique table this weekend that I'd like to use them on. The top of it is really peely and water damaged, so I got a great deal on it and it's perfect for what I need.
