A Freebie

Klinger and I where galavanting yesterday and we stopped at the stained glass store to drool/oops look at some glass(thought I needed more for the peacock but when I got it home, I already had the same glass!sheesh!) The gal there had this lamp at the back door outside and was hoping someone would steal it!ha! Well I told her I'd take it off her hands!!! I'm thinking of a wall sconce with mirror at the back. It will be awesome in my Art Room as it has a real lime green in it when it's lit up! I just had to show you all cuz it was a real beaut in it's day! I'm sooo spoiled cuz Cindy came over today and we hung out some more! Thrift stores, a garden centre with really cool bronze statues that reminded us of the Malecon in Puerto Valarta, And we stopped in and saw a guy who has a mosaic shop and chatted with him, I brazenly asked to see his tools and you wouldn't believe what he showed us!!! A bucket being turned by a little motor and a rubber band thing!ha! Rickety homemade but it worked!!! He had a sign that he would tumble a load for $15! His stuff was amazing, he does floor and wall inserts and accent pcs(borders and such) Has a very nice saw that's probabaly worth at least a couple thousand dollars! Cindy also lent me her new book by Laurie Mika(Polymore clay) so I'm sooo inspired by the last two days, not to mention going to the stained glass studio. Here is a pic of the lamp.

Boy, oh boy! What a find! Just look at that beaded fringe!
I love the color of the glass. I can imagine making a sconce like you said. I'd cut 2 sections out and bend them in together to make a V and do the mirror behind. So cool!!

Ooooooooooooooooooooooo - that glass is fabulous!!! Know what I'd do w/it? I'd use the glass for my stash, then w/wires and beads, I'd make a new lamp from the base. You know, bend the heavier guage wires to match the shape of the lamp, and string beads around that wire, then hangy down beads where the frings is to make a beaded lamp. I have something similar, but not leaded, that some day I hope to work on. I also have a table lamp by my bed on which I strung beads. 'Twas a quickie and only used beads I had on hand, so it's not the greatest, but the idea is what I'm offering. YOU could make a masterpiece w/yours, and use that wonderful glass for another project.

Thanks for the idea Slow! I've cleaned it up and will not touch it till the peacock is done!!!

What a cool lamp, love the color of the glass too! Great idea to make a sconce out of it, you are just so darn creative!

Janie and I always have fun when we get out together. We talked fleetingly about going to pick blackberries but got side tracked with the other stuff. That lamp is awesome, the colors and shape are beautiful and I know Jane will rework it into a masterpiece some how. The mosaic shop we went to had such wonderful stuff and it reminded me that I can tumble in my cement mixer, I have lots of dishes to tumble for an upcoming project so I'm gonna try that. We're off next week to Victoria to a specialty shoe store to buy some shoes for my sore feet. Jane and I walked so much on our holiday I got plantar fascitis and it's still haunting me. I know we'll hit some other great places and find some more great scores.

Oh man! I have plantar fascitis too. I got mine from working in the yard and going barefoot or wearing flip-flops most of the time. It has bothered me for 2 months now.
I sure wish I had gotten mine from walking around looking at glass stuff with a pal!
The mosaic store sounds neat. Where was it?
