Trim around windows question

Hello. We are building a new house and they are putting up the crown right now. The allowance calls for triple crown in den and dining and regular crown in kitchen and master bedroom. I asked for trim around the windows and the builder said this would be an "overage." He estimated about 100/window. Does that sound right?

We have three 3060s in the den that are right next to one another (3-4in wall space in between them), so they could put one big frame around those. Then we have two 3060s fused togesther in the breakfast room, so that would be one big frame and there's one 2040 in the master bath that I want framed. I'd also like two 3070s framed in the master bedroom (they are NOT next to each other). The rest of the window in the home are eyebrow tops, so it would be too expensive to frame those.

I understand that prices are difft in difft areas, but ABOUT how much are we looking at here?

Are we talking 2 1/4" fingerjointed clam molding? Maybe 4 1/4" colonial oak trim with a backband? Stain grade? Paint grade?

I trimmed out some of my windows, paint grade materials, used finger joint pine, ran approximately $70 per window for all materials. I did the work myself so no cost for labor. Stain grade pine would have been at least 2 to 2 1/2 times that. Your builder is probably quoting the cost of the extra materials since the Stool and the Casing would have been there anyway.

paint grade 3in trim. your basic stuff. nothing fancy. the trim that comes on the prehung molded doors is what they'll use I think.

That's probably not overpriced. Sure you could do it yourself for less, and it's probably costing the contractor $35-$65/window (plus he's gonna eat the cost of bad cuts that have to be redone). The bigger windows mulled together use less material than three individual windows and also have fewer mitered cuts so hopefully he's not charging you $300 for three windows that are joined into one big window.
