Oh Mercy! I have often wondered what you had been up to, but never dreamed you were going through so much trauma. After you had shared your photos, I thought you just were extremely busy working and creating! I will keep you in my prayers for a full recovery! Flagtruck, OH MY LANTA, you have been through a lot! And you still sound upbeat and rarin' to go! That's great! I'm Kelly; I don't think we have ever met but I'd like to see your pics sometime. Anyway, while I've never done anything with brick, I have seen tile outdoors for walkways, etc. and these were over concrete. Concrete and brick, both rather porous...I think a good rule of thumb is thinset if used outdoors. Maybe get a couple small bricks and try them out first. I've seen people on here use cinder blocks and mosaic them. The thinset I get from Lowes says it is for outdoor use. I hope I was at least somewhat helpful. Take care of yourself!

I'd use a thinset and maybe even paint the brick with bonding agent 1st.

I think thinset would be good. I'm doing some stuff on backerboard to attach to a wall. Its a very short wall, though

Gosh FLAG! We had NO idea! Just thought you were busy with gardening. We're so glad to hear that you are mending and enthusiastic about your upcoming projects! Give a yell if you need help WITH ANYTHING! Remember, SLOW and I are just down the road a ways. I just looked at my Kaffe Fassett book--he has mosaiced outside walls and patios. He uses cement or a cement-based adhesive.

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes. I am ready to get started. I've been inside for too long! I checked Jaffe also Rosemary and he paid someone to thinset all his brick, then applied the shards. I think I will use Slow's good ole Maipai adhesive and outdoor thinset as that seems to be the majority opinion.Gypsy, I loved that website in Florida. Spent entirely too much time there drooling. I will go break some more dishes today. I haven't figured out how to do the high spots yet, I will start at the bottom, I can stand, but can't yet climb a ladder! I'm still in awe every time I think of that fantastic studio. The amount of mosaic materials you had on those shelves was mind-boggling. It looked like you were setting up a STORE!!! Well of all things. I, too, thought you were wrapped up in all your projects. I think of you soooo often. So glad to read that you are back at work/play, and w/the determination and drive you have, it won't be long until we see that wall covered. Yes, Mapei Ultra Flex 2 is my recommendation for the wall - for the adhesive and grout. I am still working on my brick workshop mosaic, little by little, and if I had it to do over, I'd thin-coat it in the mortar before mosaicing. It would be much easier. Your handyman can do that for you and leave the fun stuff for yourself. Mine offered but noooooooooo, I was too anxious to get started. The mapei sticks immediately, and I had very little taping to do to hold the larger pieces on. Sooooo glad to see you back.

Hey FLAG! So glad you're back among us, and so sorry for your trauma(s)! I'm a physical therapist, so I know how devastating a stroke can be. You are quite a woman to be back with us so soon, and with a project many of us wouldn't attempt with a completely sound body (except for our way unsound minds! :D) PLEASE be careful! We don't want any more horror stories from you! Glad you're back!
