Augh!!! Tumbler troubles,,

I'm having the biggest troubles with my tumbler. Hope some of you tumbler pros can help. I have the Chicago one which Slow was good enough to ship for me. Any how I used it a couple of times and the belt broke. I had DH replace the belt and used it and the next time that belt went. In the instructions it says to have the belt as loose as possible but that doesn't make sense to me, wouldn't it be jerky then? Janie -Bo was good enough to lend me one of her THREE tumblers yesterday while I waited for the replacement belts to arrive. I did a bunch of china yesterday. Left it over night with some glass in it and it had stopped tumbling this am. I could still feel the motor going so guess likely the belt. I filled the little tumblers about 2/3 full of stuff, am I over filling? Don't worry Janie, my replacement belts came and I'll get yours fixed up. I was running it in my green house on the deck floor, so a fairly solid area. This is frustrating. Any helpful tip would sure be appreciated. Janie says she just plugs hers in and she's never had any issues with them, Jeepers, :(

Oh Cindy, You must be so frustrated!!! Maybe you'd feel better if you posted some really interesting pics for us all to look at!!! It sure sounds like the tumbling gods are not with you!!! And they call me Calamity! That tumbler you grabbed was "new to me" (2nd hand, so it coulda been on it's last belt nerve!heh heh! But I feel bad cuz I shoulda made you take all of em, at least your odds mighta increased for the good!!!

klinger- what bad luck!!! Poor girl. When I overfilled mine you could definitely tell it didn't even sound right. I don't really have any advice for you but wanted you to know we are feeling for ya!

Oh, Klinger, no help here. I've never even paid attention to the belts, let alsone had problems!! I have the double.

I have a double tumbler too and if I fill it and the weight isn't the same, it will get stuck when it tumbles and no longer spin. It also happens if you try to tumble glass in one, and dish shards in the other. Even though they seemed like they weighed the same, they stopped tumbling!

Cindy: Bummer. I think you must have got a "lemon". I haven't had any problems with mine and it's from the same source as yours.

Wow, I've never owned a tumbler. What a deal you've had with yours!
Tell me why you tumble stuff? It's never occurred to me to do this and I'm curious about it now. TIA.

Lisa, tumbling glass knocks the sharps edges off of the glass so you don't get cut if you were to run your hand along the edge. Of course, if you cut it into smaller pieces after it is tumbled, you will have sharp edges on them again.

Boy am I sorry about THAT. I seldom tumble anymore. Just like all the other tools - just HAVE to have them, then a lot of them sit w/o use.

Klinger, I know that must be real frustrating. My belts broke months ago and my DH replaced them with rubberbands and its still going strong! We ordered new belts and I don't know where they are now since I haven't needed them. I only fill mine about half full of glass, then top with water and vinegar just about 1/2 - 1" above the glass level. I have a double tumbler and often use only one tumbler at a time.

I had so much of a challenge I ordered 10 replacement belts. It's been tumbling all day and so far so good. I've only got it half full. I've got to get the one Jane lent me fixed now. I wonder if I was just doing to much at a time,I'll learn I guess,
