kingsize headboard

Thought about making a headboard for a king size bed. What type of lumber should be used? Im looking for something that wont be hard to do, because I do not have much experience. I am thinking about a rustic design that wont be to expensive. Do any of you have any designs that come to mind?

How about doing a post and rail design with pine and then distress it with a torch, chain and chisel. You could then put a natural finish on it.
