Well, CALAM beat me to the announcement. Have to make one correction to her post though. I was not STUCK w/a non-refundable ticket. I had planned to go to P.V., Mexico since last year regardless of whether I stayed at the Haciendo. That was icing on the cake, and I found a workshop to fit the timeframe I wanted to go. Sam, the owner, has had a long-going fight w/her ex-husband. He stole lots of her art when they split. She won the Haciendo in the divorce through the courts in the States, but there was a hangup in the Mexico legal system, and it was never quite settled. Her ex has fraudelently seized ownership of the Haciendo, and Sam was forced to leave, taking only her clothes and personal papers. It's the saddest thing I've seen happen in a long time in a divorce. All that beautiful home, compound, equipment, art gone. She is fighting to get it all back, so the Haciendo is off for this workshop. Don't know what the future holds for her. I could have used the ticket to somewhere in the States, but no way am I missing PV. I LOVE the place so much, I'm going every year, and might even start going more often, if I can break away from My Queendom. Here's my idea of a wonderful week w/all you who w/like to join us. I've reserved a room at the hotel Jane mentions - breakfasts on the terrace in the old part of the city. Hotel Corazon, if y'all care to visit their website. We can visit two villages by bus - Bucerias, where Jane and Cindy stayed last March and Salulita, by a 50 cent bus ride where there are shops, wonderful beach glass and other tesserae and a flea market. We can either gather on the terrace of one of our rooms or on the beach and make some art. Since I was going for the shrine workshop, I'll gather materials to make a small shrine, using things found on the beach. Please, y'all, do yourselves the best favor of all times and join this party. BAMA - it only takes two/three weeks to get a passport - go to the p.o. TODAY. I'm leaving from Dallas on Feb. 17, returning the 24th. It's 2 1/2 hrs. from Dallas. You Texas ladies, come join me on AA for that 9:40 am flight to Paradise.

DH wants to join us! He's just so darn curious about this Firecracker by the name of Slow!! heh heh!

I was even thinking of a Lady in Bucerias, who has a mosaic shop, we could infiltrate her and take over for an afternoon!!!

Oooohhhhh, I SO want to do this! I'm looking at priceline...what flight are you taking out of Dallas? I can fly Little Rock to Dallas and meet you guys there to go on to PV. IF (read that in mile-high letters!) IF I can figure out how to make the funds a reality. DH looks pretty skeptical...I gotta dream!

Saving to build a house...but this is mosaic stuff. I want a new house. I want to meet everybody. DH says it's up to me. What will I do??????????????? A week away from my kids?! Good and bad......seriously considering it.

This'll be a ton of fun I'm sure. Puerto Vallarta is full of art and beautiful mosaics are everywhere. Also stained glass. There will be beautiful warm sunny weather every day and a gorgeous beach as well. Bucerias is a cheap bus ride away and Jane and I scavenged soo much beach glass there. Also as Jane mentioned there is a mosaic place there we can check out,I'll try and post some pics later of the art you can see in pv.

I haven't been on here for a very long time...
I"ve been so busy with so many changes going on..
I'm seriously and effectively creating a life for myself, that I only used to wish for...

top of the list to mention, is that I just started a beginning Spanish class, just yesterday..
it goes on for 10 weeks and only cost $12..
it's at the senior center and this fun and spunky lady of hispanic heritage is teaching it..
oh, the authentic trill to her voice is contagious.
I'm going to really love it and was amazed how much I recognized..
guess I had actually picked up a lot, along the way of 9 years with my Oaxacan man...lol

I can't speak a sentence but do recognize words, here and there.
and can get the gist of a conversation, if enough English words are interjected..lol

I found a local artist who teaches in the evenings, so will be taking a class with her on Friday evenings..(don't watch kids that night)
and am beginning with more art classes through my own town's senior center, with a lady who has taught classes for the past more than 50 years..
those will be on Wed and Thurs, for 2 and 1/2 hours and the best part is, that they are all free....
just gotta live in the community and be over 55...
heck, I turn 60 on my next birthday...
then, not forgetting the porcelain painting...and now I have a small kiln, from a dentist's office, in my little studio.
if I can't sleep or whatever, I can paint and fire, at all hours of the day and night.

this is so surreal to me...I never thought I would get to this point in my life...and I'm savoring it..
(I never mentioned a breast cancer scare, that turned out to be negative..)...
so, you can imagine how I will treat the rest of my life.
with wild abandon and appreciation.
if all pans out, I could be teaching one day soon..not too soon, but gotta get many methods and style down pat.and more experience than I have now.
I'm not wasting time, believe me.

that's it in a nutshell for me..(coconut shell)..lol

the kids DID NOT move back in and now I have a studio in one bedroom and a craft room in the second..
the 3rd bedroom is for overflow and kids' toys, when they visit.
there's possibility they move into a duplex a couple of doors away from my house...and that would be so very convenient, since I watch them 4 evenings a week, while their mom finishes her classes, for her degree in paralegal, in mid December.
she already has a job at the prosecuting attourney's office and is going great guns.
I have the little boys painting a lot, each evening.
they sometimes don't want to go home..lol
quite a switch, from weeks ago.

sure wish I had unlimited funds..I would go but man oh, man..there are so many things to get taken care of..
I envy those of you, who do make it.

Boy, this sounds like it would be fun. If I was working, I wouldn't give it a second thought. It's on the top of my wish list.

CALAM: GREAT news that DH wants to come. I am anxious to meet your king. Hey, I didn't know about the lady w/the mosaic shop. Cool. LADY: Feb 17th, AA Flight 323 departs DFW 9:40 am, arrives PV 12:20 pm. Feb, 24th, flt 326, departs PV 1:20 pm, arrives DFW 3:50 pm. Sooooooooooo glad you're considering it. SUNSHINE - DO IT!!! D3 - yes, that's the hotel - BORROW THE MONEY, Y'ALL! You'll love this place, and I'll bet you'll make it a yearly vacation spot in the future.

GAwd, I would love to do this........and after the week I've had THIS WEEK while husband is in TX.....ahhhh....I'll see what I can do....It sounds like so much fun and all.........really doubt if I can go, but I will do some figuring and see how my time frame is at the office.........maybe I'll win the lottery by then...you think? gish!

WooHoo, Bamma, so glad you're gonna come. All I'll bring is some wheeled nippers, and some mastic or silicone.Maybe my glass cutter too. We can go on a day trip to Bucerias and get fabulous beach glass. There is also a mosaic shop in Bucerias and we can check it out and the tile store there if everyone is into it. Jane and I found a cool guy who makes cement structures and mosaics them there as well. Last year he was making an awesome bench.I have to caution you all , the Casa is in a VERY gay area. so if you're bothered by that then bring your sunglasses.I haven't booked my flight yet, I will probably stay around 8-10 days though.Down a flight of stairs from the casa is a great beach with a resteraunt , the waiters will bring you food or drinks. What I really like though is that there is wonderful live music every afternoon. They had some great bands last year. I really enjoyed sitting on the beach listening to the wonderful music and basking in the sun.

You guys are gonna be on such an artistic inspirational overload after visiting PV that you won't be able to wind down for months. BAMA - I'm so glad you're gonna make it happen. GYPSIE - Puuuuuuuuuleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeee! You deserve it!!!!! Yep - regular nippers, scoring tool and silicon. We'll gather the tesserae there. Even the street offers lots of that. Hey - CALAM, KLINGER - how about that artist in PV where y'all went and bought the wonderful glass too. And, HEY - there's a tile factory y'all w/LOVE to visit w/lots of stuff to buy. Taxis are cheap, everyone speaks English and everyone accepts dollars. 'course, you get pesos in change. Went to an art festival today in Shreveport, LA, and bought a WONDERFUL shrine from a collage artist. I'm just sorry that February is such a long way away, cuz I need to run away from my Queendom, which is a literal B&B lately, and just make shrines after viewing her work. I can hardly WAIT to get to PV.

LOL - SUN - how sweet of you. It feels like I run a B&B. Mo/Bro coming for tomorrow night, and every other weekend my DD comes. She has a boyfriend here, and I'll be glad when she moves here. Sooooo glad this group is forming. I can't recommend PV as an artist shot in the arm enough. I tell y'all, just being in this artistic city w/make you want to create 24/7.

Oh, GEESH - wish I were leaving tomorrow!!!

Here's a picture of the shrine, made by Trish Ransom. She uses found objects, and I LOVE the way she puts it all together. Body of the angel is a rusted paint can top, folded, top was what a friend threw out from cutting out a piece of an old beadboard cabinet, head is a white button over a gold junk jewelry earring (pardon the glare)and the blue/gold painted background is slightly raised off the bottom of the old drawer that houses the shrine is a scrap piece of luan - rusted draw pull embellishes the bottom. "Blouse and underskirt" under the paint can lid are flattened beer cans. She had other "girls" on old pieces of wood, and also uses those cabinet doors for shrines. WONDERFUL artist. I guess I won't be going. DH was more than "skeptical" today, he's more like antagonistic. "We can't afford it", "I've been depressed just thinking about it", "what's the point?", "Just a bunch of women going for FUN?", (me: "...um, and at least one husband...") yada, yada, yada. It was fun to consider there for a couple of days. Even had me a little excited about going back to work if I was going to be earning money toward something besides bills and groceries and farm expenses. Oh well, another time maybe. Yes, I'm bummed.

awe I'm sorry Ronnie, cyber hugs for you. I know we couldn't swing it so I haven't even let myself fantasize about this trip. But to be totally honest, if I'm to meet Slow - I feel strongly that part of that experience should be the Queendom! So maybe we can all still pull off a drive to Texas convention. Buck up Kiddo
