If you are going to go with Fiberglass, because you want the look of wood, skip the Heritage and go with the Signet. Its a much better looking door.

Depending on where you are, I would also check out the Home Guard Signature series with the Timberframe jamb system.

+1. The Signet by Provia and Signature by Homeguard (HGI) are as good as it gets when it comes to quality and the realistic look and feel of wood.

Would you be able to recommend a real wood door brand as an alternative? I'm not adverse to going with wood but I like the low maintenance of fiberglass assuming it's a quality product (we went with fiberglass for the garage doors).

Any thoughts/observations on real wood vs. fiberglass beyond maintenance?

Yes.

Fiberglass = little to no maintenance, inorganic, not subject to moisture, etc.

Wood = none of the above.

Look at a quality fiberglass door and if possible, composite jamb system. They look amazing when done right.

+1. If the look suits your taste (I'd be sure to see a stained, high end unit in person before deciding), fiberglass will be the superior option. I'd also add that for a beautifully finished, high end solid hard wood door you will likely pay a premium. The paneled stuff that's out there is junk.

Could you recommend a manufacturer for a solid hardwood door? So that I can compare the two. Would be interested in the price differential between a premium fiberglass and wood door.

You need to find a quality local mill shop, generally there are local shops. Most national guys will not be the manufacturer ask they are more volume than high quality. What area of the country are you located in as I know a few in NY. Fontrick, Select, Creekside and Upstate come to mind but they all have dealers and are not available thru just anyone.

Mayhew We are Distributors for Upstate in The New york and NJ area but do not deal with single units. Dykes is your best bet. It is a Lumber yard with brances in NJ and NY. Main office in Weehawken they handle many door manufacturers in addition to Upstate.

Upstate is south of Buffalo in 3' of snow currently but luckily for them not far enough north or West to have gotten hit as hard as other counties.
