I am so excited...could hardly sleep last night trying to figure out what to make with it!
I have done a project with slate tile but have never worked with glass. I have a book with projects in it and I like a rock I saw with flowers all over it...but they used vitreous (?) glass and I didn't get any of that...if I do the rock with my glass should I use silicon instead of cement based adhesive?
Do you more experienced artists have any ideas for a good beginner project? I have a lot of ideas but not sure what would be best use of the glass I have.

I got the off-cuts from Maria, too, and I simply went around my house to find SOMETHING...ANYTHING flat to stick them to! I've got a lazy susan that I'll likely use them on (just one of several projects on "the list"), and I just looked at every flat surface to see what I could transform into a work of art. I have several choices from small tables, the LS, and a couple of other things that could use a facelift. I finally settled on a purchased 'base' that I will use in the exchange. It was a small project, but ended up being a very good practice piece while I played with the tiles, and worked with the color arrangements. Such FUN!!!!

I used regular glass to make my ladybug on a rock. I just used waterproof adhesive glue that I got from the craft store in the big purple tube. Can't remember what the name is. Anyway it is what I use on almost all my outdoor things and nothing has popped off yet.

Livin, you can use either of your choices for adhesive. they both will work fine.

Livnlif, looks like lots of fun! I'm excited for you because looking at all those glass colors is exciting. I LOVE to get packages in the mail, especially ones with glass!
Something simple to do are photo frames. Recently I bought some from Michael's made from MDF material; use their 40% off coupon and you only pay $2-3 for each one. You can use as photo frame or put mirror in them for a wall hanging. They are real nice gifts because they have the glass for photos, with a wall hanger and the stand for sitting on a desk. I usually paint the edges with the acrylic paints.
This will be a fun weekend for you! Can't wait to see what you do.

livn- Lucky you!!! I love to mosaic on rocks, they are quick and fun and you can do something real simple. I am putting a picture of on of my rocks so you can see what I mean. You will have so much fun!!!!

mmqchdygg...I've been noticing a lot of things in my house that could use a good "do over"! But since I'm new at this I want to make sure I wont ruin something! I need a few practice pieces first I think. I love what your doing for a backsplash for your kitchen! Love all the color!

Livnlife, if you do the MDF photo frames (or other objects similar), you can use Weldbond. It is a very nice white glue with easy cleanup. And glass sticks very easily to the MDF. Can't wait to see your rock.

Chickee, I love that rock! I've been wanting to do stepping stones with my GDs footsteps. This would be an easy way to do it, when I visit them. I could make some at their house to leave for them, then bring their footprint patterns home to do some at my home. Thanks for sharing this idea.

#1. A grinder would sure be handy!
#2. Plan your pattern layout!
#3. Dont try to do it all in one sitting...boy did my neck ache yesterday!
#4. Keep bandaids handy!
I'm sure there are a lot more lessons to come...I was so anxious just to make something...already working on the next one but I need more mirror tiles! Ackk!

How wonderful is that!!! It turned out great. Its very colorful and fun!!! I love doing the rocks to get a quick mosaic fix!!! I actually have a pile of them that are just perfect..when I need my next fix that is!!!

I can say that IMO a grinder is a must. You did great w/o one on this project but boy does it seem to make things easier with one. There are a lot of the gals on here that dont need them or want them but I sure love mine.

This is your first project? You did really well. Really like the colors and the flowers look good. I never thought about doing that with a rock. I just thought to make bugs out of mine.

Dang! that is one cool rook! You did very well on your nipping, but if you want a more refined look (for lack of a better word) the grinder would be the tool.
Geez, a lot of folks are doing flowers lately.. are we anxious for Spring..already??LOL

Your rock looks great! I love the cheerful colors! Your spacing is very good. You are off to a great start!!!

BTW, I LOVE my grinder. I wouldn't do without it now that I have one. That is the one electric tool I would highly recommend. I shape a lot of my glass on my grinder. But you did very well without one.
