How about painting it a stunning color with a focal piece of art at the end wall? Then replace the light fixtures with recessed can lights and focus the end one on the art. Use the niche for a small piece of sculpture and think about painting the doors, not necessarily the trim, glossy black.

terri...I just read a blog by "HiSugarplum" and she had a long hallway with LOTS of doors as well. They did a "faux" wainscotting that was 3/4 the height of their doors so that the doors were not as visible. Her faux wainscotting was using the boards on top of the drywall and painting it all a white, she may have used White Linen as well. Her hallway came in from garage, has like 4 doors and at the other end you enter her family room. It became a little mudroom area as well with hooks etc.. Check her blog out "mudroom complete" and she gives detail on how she did the "wainscotting".

When you change the floor you might look at running the flooring sideways. That would make the hall look wider.
