Sometimes it pays to just walk away and leave a project for awhile. I've done that - I keep trying to fix my mistake and it gets worse and worse ... LOL .
It'll be easier after a little break from it.

Oh MM...so sorry it didn't work out! Was it because of the grout getting into the ridges/holes on the tiles like what was talked about not too long ago..concerning the different grades of tiles, etc...
I hope you can salvage it!

I'm sorry about your grout troubles...so many folks here have such beautiful results with black grout, but my experience was a bad one also. Almost gave up on my mirror...it took all the shine off my red glass globs, and made the whole thing look awful. I put it aside for a day, thought about it and came back with a plan. Painted the grout with acrylic paint, metallic copper color, then gave the red globs a coat of lacquer. All in all, I was pleased with the final result. I have confidence that you will save it. Don't give up!

OOOoooohhh MM, I'm right there with you,feeling your pain. My daughter wanted a bird house grouted in black. I used some pretty cracked Limoge saucers with the daintiest blue flowers,and had found the sweetest little tiny porcelain hummingbird I cut off of a bell, and a crystal knob for the perch. It was gorgeous........til I grouted it black!!! No matter what I did, I could not get that thing to look good. Then after setting it aside my DH knocked it over and the little hummmingbird is in a bajillion pieces parts...he says super glue will fix it....yeah,right,ok!! You think that ugly birdhouse even got one piece knocked loose????? NO! hehe

Sorry about your black grout boo-boo. I like how the black looks with so many things, but it is a pain to deal with...

Oh, MaryMary (ok, TINA, now that we know!!!:) I'm so sorry. I thought it would look great in a dark grout. Glad you fished it out to see another day though.

RAMONA: I positively LOVE that mirror! It is BEEYOUTEEFULL! I had it as my computer background for a couple of weeks! (Hope you don't mind. I keep rotating my background with works that inspire me.)

To bad the black didnt work out. It seemed like it would've been the obvious grout color choice with those bright colors. Like everyone said...glad you fished it out of the garbage and leave it be for awhile and look at it with fresh eyes!!!

Thank you for posting about the gold color-wash..I LOVE that! Won't work for this piece, but I'll file it away for another project. I totally forget about that trick!

I'm going to bring home some light gray grout...heck, may as well go from one extreme to the other, right? And I'll need some white for my other project...but someone mentioned light green for that...so I guess I'll be in the grout aisle today if anyone's looking for me.

That does suck! I've had that happen to me.....but with white unsanded grout! But I didn't dig mine out of the trash...I burned it I think! LOL.......I've always had good luck with black grout........you just never know....! I use sanded grout a lot now.

Well, here it is...grout- take 2. I never made it to the grout store; thought I had a Silver Shadow at home, but alas, I didn't, so it got "Sauterne." I still hate it. Anyone want this thing? (Really..)

it came out really nice. i am not a big fan of black grout. i use a lot of tan and mossy green. but that did come out pretty after all your hard work...barb

MM: whatever color you wish it to be, just paint it w/acrylic paint, then wipe it off your tiles. It looks fine as is. I'm definitely a grey grouter, but how about a cream or warm beige for this piece?

I like the white grout and I think if you give it time you will start to like it too. Right now you are just mad at this piece.I think it looks great. Fill the container with chocolate and by the time it is empty you will love the container.

I never buy the colored grouts. I have a HUGE drawer of craft paints I mix my own colors as needed. Just add the paint first to be sure you get it in there and then add your water as needed. Not the other way around. Otherwise you might end up with WAY too much grout trying to get enough color.

Usually I grab several bottles of paint and shake them Then open and set lids against my project and when you see the right color grout for your project you will know it. It will sepak to you. So many times I have picked a grout color in my mind got the paint to mix it and then YUCK it is not at all what I was looking for. I got to doing the paint bottle lid test and it has worked for me much better. Just remember the paint mixed grout usually dries lighter.
