I'd suggest determining what you think is a fair price for the chair and make an offer.
Most people don't want a complete set so the owners should be willing to sell the items separately.

That set brings back memories. We had a set just like that sofa and chair and had a marble top coffee table to go with it. The only new furniture my mom could ever afford to buy. She cherished it! When my cousin was helping us move and the marble off that coffee table hit the street, I thought my poor mom would have a heart attack. That was not a good day for anyone. LOL

That chair would be a real bear to recover.

I agree with Graywings about recovering. My recamier has that half-back which is all tufted and the seat portion is also tufted. When upholsterer came out, he started counting buttons as if they were $20 bills and I was thinking 'caching, caching, caching' and I was right. :(

I like French but don't really care for the chair that much, sorry.

The scale of the fabric to wood just seems a bit off.

I'm generally in favor of anthing antique or vintage, but I find this set (esp. the chair) too boxy. Plus I hear that tufting is quite expensive to have done. The chair plus the sofa together look too much like Grandma's parlor. Take your time and go for more of a collected look.

I'll be the odd man out and say you should go look at it. If it has deep seating then a good upholsterer can do lots with that chair.

I'd get rid of the tufting and, if room allows, put a separate pillow on the back.
