Feedback on Artwork...

I am a new photographer looking to get some advice on my work from a hang-ability perspective. I do a dynamic range style of flowers. Here is my favorite. Is this something you could see hanging on a wall? Obviously without the watermark...

Fair Notice ... This is linked to a WordPress store page but I am NOT advertising it, I sincerely need some feedback. I am a little worried that the images may appear to be a little sinister...

Ooooh, sinister daisies! ;-) OK, seriously Robb - I love that photo. I am partial to daisies anyway, and I absolutely could envision hanging that in my own home. I also love your "Everyone Hates Dandelion" photo. Love your color saturation. You do good work.

:) Thanks! I get a little paranoid about showing my stuff, but I really want to see if I can do more with it and getting it out there for people to look at is a big step. I sincerely appreciate the feedback!

robbluther--can you tell me how that works? I've got some photos I'd love to have printed up...but not sure of the process/mechanics...

Oh my. It it were a bit bigger and not too expensive to frame, I can easily see that on my utility room wall (pale yellow) which can be seen through the kitchen.

Keep up the good work and I'd love to see more pictures!

So you would actually like to see bigger prints available? I was thinking people wouldn't like big prints as much...

I agree...nice work. I would encourage LARGE prints &/or stretched canvas prints - the bigger the better!!!

    Love the prints.

I'm thinking that maybe you should put the print, the size and the price all together on the same page. I had to click through a couple of pages to get all that information.

I'm also not sure about the descriptive text. I tend to think more highly of a piece of art if I don't know what was going on in the artist's mind. Makes the art more mysterious, in a way, and more special, and perhaps more valuable.

Especially with photographs. If I read "I took this photo in my friend's backyard", I think, well, I have a friend with a backyard. I bet I could take a photo like that.

I guess if I'm going to buy a gorgeous photo of a dandelion, then I will have an instant relationship with that dandelion -- as I imagine it. I don't care so much about how YOU feel about dandelions. No offense, but I think it's true of all art. I like Van Gogh's paintings. I don't care about his ear. But maybe that's just me, LOL.

Oh my, I am blathering. I apologize. Your photos are beautiful, and yes, I think they would sell if they were larger.

Robb, where can one see your prints in person? Which Ligonier shop carries them?

Love it for a fun display. What I would like to see is large photos of parts of my old Mustang! That's the way I have been wanting to have my car photographed and displayed. (I like your work, but it's not always about flowers, is it?)

Wow. I am amazed at the response! And appreciative!

    Ok, let me start...

@mjsee - It is a three exposure process that I merge together to bring out the colors.

@oakleyok - I do have more picutrues... not in my store, but you can see my Flickr Page here : http://www.flickr.com/photos/robbluther

@InteriorStylist - I have a panoramic of my town that is about 5fett by 1.5 feet... the framing would be enormously expensive for it odd sizes. I am not sure if I sould offer them framed, or just the print.

@mclarke - I am still trying to get the store working right... I guess i put the cart a little ahead of the horse, I just didn't want to waste time if there wasn't going to be a market for these.

@LuAnn_in_PA - No one actually... I haven't approached them. There is a jewler on 711 (Mrs. Robertson) who has a print of mine in her shop.

@annie1971 - Not always flowers by any means. I love to photograph all kinds of different things :)

    One word. WOW!~

Yes, bigger prints would be perfect! Not huge mind you, but enough to stand alone.

Also, I like to buy prints that I can frame myself with inexpensive frames instead of having a frame shop/website doing it.

I love the pics. Especially love the flowers and the Cardinal. Beautiful!

@Cindyloo123 I wasn't too thrilled with the Cardinal... it was a little dark and I took the pic through a window so it isn't as clear as I would like.

I was actually wondering who you have print your stuff...or if you do it yourself.

Ack Rob, I agree, it came out a little dark. I couldn't quite make out his face. Still, that color against the snowy background was stunning. You'll get a better shot next time, lol.

@mjsee I typically use SnapFish or goto a Ritz camera. I like Mat finishes. :)

@Cindyloo I plan on shooting (with my camera) a lot of birds this winter... I will be investing in a better telephoto lens to do it... I missed a huge Pilated Woodpecker this summer and was very bummed about it.

Robb--thanks! There is a Ritz near us. I'll go see what they have to offer!

Robb, there is a site named Wetcanvas.com where you can register and enjoy the benefits of interacting with other photographers and artists and getting professional critiques on your work. I've been a member for years and there's no charge and the people are so nice. That being said, I'd say your do a very good job and it certainly is marketable if you can keep the cost in line with what the traffic will bear. You can learn all the how to's of merchandising your work too. All artists doubt themselves on some level but you have nothing to worry about, you're doing very well.

Uh......weeeeeeeeeell......I'm on FLICKR and I like it....but it is over processed HDR. The whites are starting to take on a blue hue.....I can't predict what people are buying, I know lots of people trying to sell their pieces....but I'd guess they buy pieces to match their decor. The red accent wall needs something....the all white room.....

I know a guy that has a contract to sell landscape shots to be published on tourist calendars, t-shirts....

I suggest you go to artspan.com and see how other photographers are displaying their work, it's a great site and also has a friendly forum.

From what I gather, this is not your real site, just a practice site you are
testing . You also seem to be using it as a portfolio to show that you can take real estate photos, museum tours, I think you need a focus of some kind as far as selling your flowers, have more of them in that section .
The daisies are the one I like least because it does not look like a photo .

It's good for you to ask for feedback here but if you want to test saleability, possibly start on ebay or etsy, see if they really sell.
Good luck in your budding career !!
