MBR inspiration - help with elements

DD has fallen in love with the bedroom pictured. We would like to recreate it for her apartment. I think she found the picture on Pinterest. I did a little hunting around to see if we could find where the picture came from and identify the resources. I finally found it on the Better Homes and Gardens website in a slideshow on bedroom ideas. There was no information at all about the source of the picture or resources for items within the picture.

We already have blue silk drapes. We also have a gray padded headboard.

Here are some of the things, I need help with:

-What color is the bench at the end of the bed? On my monitor, it appears to be orange - almost Hermes orange. Does anyone recognize the fabric? I'm sure it is expensive. Does anyone know of an inexpensive fabric that would give the same feel? Because DD's room is not big enough for a bench at the end of the bed, we are going to paint an armchair white and cover the seat in whatever fabric gives the same feel as the bench fabric.

-Are the two pillows on the bed purple/lavender? Again, anyone recognize the fabric?

-Do you think a basic white bedskirt would work as well as the blue print?

Do you see any elements that are necessary that I'm missing?

FWIW, she is in a typical apartment - beige wall and beige carpet. The good news is the beige paint leans slightly toward gray and there is a really big window in the bedroom.

Lovely room. Really interesting color pairings.

I think the pattern on the bedskirt is important. Yes, it is Hermes orange (the only company that could save orange from its fast food image). I think you need more than just an orange seat, you need a horiztonal band of orange somewhere. Note too the orange vase w purple flowers.

I would look two places - Etsy for pillows, and Calico Corners for fabric. If you cant find orange paisley, for example, you could do orange ikat and then make the pillows purplish paisley.

One thing very key -- white walls and a mostly white bed to provide a backdrop for all the rest. I also think you need blue at the foot of the bed (the cashmere throw)

I took a quick look on eBay and found some bedskirts that might work for you. They aren't the ikat pattern shown in your inspiration picture, but the first two have a similar scale and feel. The third one has similar colors and might work depending on the other fabrics you choose.

Actually, now that I look at your picture more closely, that's not an ikat, but a floral of some kind.

Thanks, mtnrdredux. I didn't add that the bedding she is using is white. So we are good on that point.

Thanks for the link to Calico Corners. I had called myself looking there, but I totally missed the fabric you posted, which is beautiful. I also like the piece linked below. Or how about this ikat?

Unfortunately, the walls are what they are - one of the joys of apartment living. I'm just grateful they are not a muddy beige.

Thanks for looking for a bedskirt, F2BH. I realize the bedskirt is an important element, but I think we are going to have to stay with what we have (white). The blue drapes are difficult to match or even blend. They are an odd steely gray blue. If I can find a good color to go with the drapes, I'm considering adding a Greek key trim along the edge of the white bedskirt.

What is the bedskirt made of? Can you block print it yourself? You can buy printing blocks and use fabric paint.

It's a lovely room. I wouldn't get too literal with the inspiration...imo, it's better when you take the inspiration and make it your own. The pillows appear to be almost old rose in color which is not something I would do. I think it may be trying to pick up on the lavender in the lilacs on the end table, but it's not to my liking. (whatever that's worth!) I think I would lean toward the deep purples as a secondary accent to contrast with the orange.

Other thing to notice is the dark brown legs on the bench go with the dark brown wood tone of the floor which is contrasted by the natural sisal rug.

I think the dark hardwood floor is an important element - I wonder if a darker rug such as dark blue (plain) might help balance the effect with the beige carpet?

I think the view of the lovely walled garden is also part of what makes that room so inviting, does her window open onto a balcony where she can have potted plants to imitate that part?

The light fixture - she probably has a plain one but can she change out the shade (put the original shade back on when she moves)?

AD, I, too wondered about the rose/lavender/lilac. We will probably do the gray headboard, white bedding, blue curtains, and tangerine accent. And hold off on the rose/lavender/lilac until all the other pieces are in place.

tinan, her windows do not open, but at least they do look out on to a wooded area rather than another building. There is no ceiling light fixture. Her lamps are crystal blocks with square lamp shades. We may add band of gray ribbon around the lower edge of the lamp shade, but that will be one of the last elements added.

bronwynsmom, block print the fabric? Wow! you must be one talented woman. (well, from your other posts, I know you are a talented woman) I think I'm going to have to go with something simpler.

The one thing I noticed in the picture that I think is critical is a white curtain rod. DD has dark rods from her previous apartment. She can use them in the guest room and the LR.

The room is really all about the interesting patterns in different colors on the crisp background of white (and to a lesser extent gray and sisal). I agree that the bits of dark wood help set it off too.

I think you'll want to look for another pattern to add to the room if you use a white bed skirt. I think you'll still need some of the blue that's in the curtains. If you don't take the inspiration photo very literally, I think you have a few options- including a stamped or patterned rug, a patterned quilt instead of the yummy cashmere throw, bed pillows in an ikat or blue floral to replace the purple. If you look at the room, you'll see elements of the blue and orange patterns from all angles.

It's a lovely room and you are off to a great start! I am sure your daughter's room will be lovely and relaxing also!

Thank you, my dear, but I didn't say I was actually good at block printing myself! But I know someone with the focus and patience to do it well, and I know it isn't difficult, once you have the hang of it.

Has anyone noticed the article in the October issue of Traditional Home, "Tiffany Blue and Hermes Orange"? Fabulous!

Does this look like the bench fabric? It is Schumacher Harmon Manor II in tangerine

Here's a site below with many choices for the throw pillow. She may like one a little different.
