hexagonal tile - love or not so much?

I was pretty sure I was going to get hex tile for our bathroom, the one decision that was pretty easy.... then I talked with the contractor today. He said I probably would not like all that grout... SO has anyone lived with this style? What do you say? The tile I found is unglazed in case anyone has a thought about that too:)

Thanks!!

Love my white hex in our master bath
We used Mapei silver grout - NO problems at all
White grout may be another story

    Good luck

We have glazed white hex tile with black accents. I love it. I love the vintage look of hex tile and the amount of grout has never been an issue. We have black grout, which I was worried about but actually really like as well.

    Good luck!

The grout actually keeps it from being as slippery and also breaks up the visual field so that every speck of lint does not show up a mile away.

I love hex tiles and the many cool ways they can be used. Make sure you check out American Olean's commercial site as they show some cool borders and patterns for hex floors.

autumngal - where did you get your glazed tiles. I have only found the unglazed so far.
Thanks for the thoughts... I am feeling more courageous to stick with my plan.

Thanks for the referral to American olean's site and the grout names and colors!

    Hi!

My son's bathroom is my favorite room in our home!! I LOVE the floor. We did white grout (gasp!). We haven't even sealed it yet (gasp!!!). I do have rugs placed around the toilet area. It has been in over a year. We do plan to seal it before winter. pics below...

We got our glazed tile from Home Depot (link below is just in white, but they have white with sporadic black spots as well- they don't have the daisys). I can't give a huge recommendation for it, they have chipped more easily than I'd like- which I guess means to say, there are a couple of chips and I don't love that on a new floor. I'm chalking it up to the fact that they are probably not as well made as other manufacturers. Even with the chips, I love it, and honestly, I'm the only person who's noticed them.

I'm also with anysrq they probably don't want all the work, lots more grout means a lot more work for them!

Here's a link to a glazed hex tile website from GW Tile guru Bill Vincent: Mosaic Tile- Glazed Hex Tiles
I'd trust his expertise on that.

Actually, here's a link to a GW bathrooms thread that Bill gives that link: GW hex tile finish thread

Here is a link that might be useful: home depot hex tile

We used the same pinwheel as Amy. Grout is a light gray ... I think Delorean.

Love both the hex and the pinwheel!

We have an all white octagon and dot with grey grout and I grew up in a house that has 42 year old unglazed white and salt-and-pepper in the text pattern with grey grout. And they look great. Both my apartments have had white tile and white grout circa 1965 and the grout looks bad in every apartment I've seen--bad enough for me to tear my original floor out.

I think the difference is the grey grout--that is what keeps it pristine. Some people can do white grout very well, but grey seems to be an easier way to keeping it pristine looking. Even my sisters 1939 that had been a college "animal house" had decent looking white bathroom floors, because of the grey grout.
