I like the last picture.....pretty kitchen!

It's my personal preference to maintain the same finishes in a space where there are several fixtures needed, especially if they can all be seen from a doorway. I like the wrought iron 6 candle chandelier, but don't care for any of the pendants, mainly because of the finish as well as the shape. I look at your kitchen and see more formality than casual, and IMO, would continue with that.

I also have 2 cabinet finishes, glazed ivory and a dark stained Alderwood , a little darker wood floor, and lighter granite, but your kitchen looks very similar to mine. I chose all wrought iron fixtures for the kitchen, FR, and foyer, because all could be seen upon entering the area. Here is a link to the 2 I have over the peninsula. Joanie - thanks! Not quite sure about the drum pendant but it goes with an existing lamp and the pendants. I think the style works if I go with dining furniture similar to the pic.

patty_cakes - the finishes are my biggest issue, and that my pendants need to be down lights with strong wattage. It does limit my choices. Many of the fixtures I posted have several choices of finishes. I am a bit fearful if I choose a dark color over the island it will be too dark for the room. I'll have to mock some up. I'd love to see a pic of yours.

I've actually never had pendants before so I'm unfamiliar with the light except for what I've read. I don't have a lighting store to visit, just big box which doesn't help.

Im going with these pendants. They're called Janus by Cyan. I'm using 2 of the large 14" ones over my 10 foot island.

Karen - that pendant is beautiful and definitely my style. That is more in line with what I envisioned during planning. Have you seen it in person? I'm wondering if it accomplishes task lighting. I love glass pendants but am fearful the light is more ambient than task. I started out with a marble island which reflects light. I had fabrication issues and now have the walnut which absorbs light. It's fine in the daylight, but now as the days grow short, I know I need more light. I tend to cook late.

My kitchen will be all white with either marble or white quartz counters. My lighting person said they may not give enough task light so I'm also putting a small recessed light in-between them. My eating area will have a white pendant chandelier with crystals and my 2 storey great room will have the Restoration Hardware Foucaults Iron Orb Chandelier in the polished nickel. They don't make it in that finish anymore though. I picked it up last year in anticipation for our build!

Bbtrix - FYI - I have the smaller Janus light in my bathroom -- I would say it is more mood/ambient lighting than task lighting.

Karen - your plan sounds georgeous, love the RH chandie too! I looked it up after jujubean71's recent post and wondered about the finish.

I think your space is really beautiful and a great mixture.
I think the choices you show, while they are each and every one lovely, are not on the same level ( I mean it as a complement) as what you already have.
I can't speak to the task lighting part, but I think the type of fixture that joaniepoanie has (delicate lantern?) would be beautiful and different enough to warrant being in your space.
I do have pendant lights that I rarely use, as they are more decorative but I will say that they seem to provide pretty good task lighting as they are right on the spot. (because I also thought those janus ones were stunning).

sheilaaus122 - Thanks for your honesty. I believe that is why I can't decide, everything that I think is beautiful does not function for cooking or is over my budget. I'd like to be able to get the pendants and chandelier under $1K. My sink is in the island, so evening task light is critical. I have three recessed lights behind me, but I really need focused light on the island.

I am a big fan of RH so that definitely gets my vote for the dining room chandelier. Only concern is, will it be too big for your table? For the ceiling fan, I am not fond of the wooden one, but the stainless doesn't go with the RH chandelier either. Have you seen those ceiling fans that don't have paddles? Is that something you might be interested in? Like 2 electric fans moving together?

I'm a fan of RH also and they have a sale right now. The one I have posted is 24". I plan to purchase a new table, so I think the chandelier diameter should be 21-24".

I am fearful of finding materials that match RH since they are rather unique but I should be able to get close.The ceiling fans I just stuck in there for an idea. I thought I'd pick it after I decide on the pendants and chandelier. Not sure that the ones that look like electric fans would go.

I do hope you get more responses (maybe this will bump up the thread). I too have been stuck for months on lighting choices. It is so hard to know what goes and what does not in open concept spaces.

As per your original mock-ups, I think the finish on the dining room chandy should match the island pendants. So, of the mocks up shown in the original post, I like the last one best. However, I would explore other options for dining room chandy and compare.

You have lovely natural light in your space and your kitchen and home in general is gorgeous.

I'm in the same situation. I sure admire your mock-up abilities! I think I might move forward if I could do that. I agree that your fixture finishes should match but I am not bowled over by the choices you have narrowed (although several are ones that I have considered at some time). I am going to share some favorites that I have been pondering. (I only know how to post 1 pic at a time)

Another...I like how this glass would echo your marble and the stem would tie into your island.

Another clear glass....I think all three of these work well with either candelabra chandeliers.

Sorry I've been slow to respond; we have some urgent family issues unfortunately. It's good to know I have company with this problem, maybe we can help each other get through this stage. I will take a new picture this evening to show the amount of light in the space while I cook, then do a few more mock ups. l just use MS Word and Paint.

OntarioMom - I liked the drum pendant for a long time but am unsure to commit to the style. It goes with one of my current lamps (sitting on the piano). I have quite a few others to mockup.

BirchPoint - the first seeded pendant by Kichler was the one I was referring to in my original post! I love seeded glass and it's a good size. My only concern is would it give me enough task lighting and would there be a lot of glare? What are the brand/model of the other two? I like those also.

I wish I had some experience with pendants. Never having them is making this more difficult and the fact that I can't just pick based on looks. This one has to function for prep and cleanup as the main sink is in the island. I'll post some more that I've collected, not mixing finishes, after dinner.

I have the Kichler one in our new lake place. I haven't cooked there yet, so can't speak to whether they are good enough for task. I paired them with a PB lantern. They are very large. I'll check their light output tomorrow, if you like.

Dee - thank you! And you also have a sloped ceiling! Your kitchen is lovely! If possible, when you check the light output could you snap a few pix with the lights on? Did you use max wattage bulbs?

Yes, I will. I'm not sure the bulb size, but I'll check.

deeinohio, which size Everly pendant are those? They come in 3 sizes I think. They look great and your space sure is similar to bbtrix. The 13" pendant is 100W which I think is pretty good.

bbtrix, the other glass pendant is also Kichler (12" @ 100W) and the school house pendant is Quorum International Schoolhouse pendant (15" @ 100W) and it comes in several sizes.

Birch point, mine are the large. The pic makes them look smaller than IRL. They make quite a statement, and everyone we have shown the house to comments how much they like them, even the electricians.

Dee, do you have recessed lighting near the island? The 13" is the one I've been looking at too.

deeinohio, If you are going to check their light output soon would you mind also getting a measurement on your island? My island is 116" long x 39" wide and am hoping two large pendants would work. Thanks for the help with visualization.

Okay, I went out to the house today. It was rainy and overcast, but it was still hard for me to tell whether these will put out enough light for you. We have 2 recessed lights behind them (like in the pic) and 2 in front of them. We just used the decorative "old-fashioned" bulbs which came with the lights which, I think, are 60 watt. I think you can use 100 watt, but I'm thinking that would just increase glare, not help with task. I turned them on and looked for lighting reflection in the granite, but couldn't see much. I would have tried higher voltage bulbs for you, but, alas, there were none in the house.

I'll be honest: I select items based on shape. I can look at a page of 100 lamps at the same time and immediately pick the one or two whose shape I like. That's how I picked these pendants. Task wasn't as important to me as much as size (had to be large since I had selected 2 rather than 3 pendants and the ceiling had volume), shape, and not cluttering the visual space. The choice of pendants and chandelier were the hardest for me, so I understand your dilemma.

deeinohio - this has been a big help. The visualization really does make a difference. I love the soft glow and ambiance the pendants give your space. I also chose these by the shape and size.

Do you think you'll have enough light at the sink in the evening? As i cooked and cleaned up last night, I really thought about it. Right now the lights are at ceiling level and I don't remember what wattage i got for the temp lights. It's dim but workable - just not the same bright light at the perimeter. I'll have to talk to my DH. I think he thinks I'm overanalyzing this.

deeinohio, Don't worry about the measurement -- I went ahead and bought 3 of the 10" pendants! I MADE A DECISION! My island is 116" so I decided I probably needed 3 of the smaller size and found a picture on Houzz that had that same setup.

I can't believe that I finally made a decision after ruminating for a year (although, in the back of my mind, I know that there is the return option on the order). I paired the pendants with the Pottery Barn Armonk 6 arm chandelier.

When I asked DH to measure the island for you, he kind of looked at me quizzically and I said, "You don't understand how difficult pendant choice is, and how desperately a person searches for examples of size to get a good visualization before ordering." He then understood. I struggled for months as well. This is a weekend place, so I didn't want to go overboard, but I wanted it pretty.

And, bbtrix, I know I'll have enough light. I dont't even have pendants in our primary house, just recessed, so this will definitely be more! I have to say, they look gorgeous in your room. Just make sure you're ready for the upkeep of glass if you cook a lot. Good luck with your decision. Make sure you post when you decide.
