Very nice vignettes!!! I used to all=out decorate for fall...now I throw a couple pinecones & cinnamon sticks out & call it done!!! LOL!!!

I'm the same way! This year all I did was put pinecone and acorn ornaments on an ornament tree and called it a day.

I've never been into Fall decorating, mostly because I don't like the colors inside the house, but love them outdoors.

The kitchen on the blog is to die for. Those lamps are delish!

It's beautiful and I love the selections and everything blends well, but to me it's just...too much. I can't imagine the time, money and storage space it would take to decorate like that. And then to turn around and get ready for Christmas! It is very pretty but not practical.

Hilltop, after looking at the pictures again, you're absolutely right. My problem is there's too much on the countertops, one thing after another. Cooking & clean-up would be a chore!

"Tuscan" is my second favorite decorating style. Love it!

I love it. I see pictures like those and I only wish my home had that "warmth". Mine feels so stark in comparison. Whenever I try to add vignettes it never looks right. Plus, I couldn't imagine the clean-up...

I don't love it. It looks like a craft store to me. Just my opinion.

She is surely talented in the vignette department but it does feel like too much to me in that quantity.

    I found it indigestible.

I know some people who decorate this way. And you can tell a great deal of care went into it. "Look, honey, I found bunny rabbit toilet paper to go in our powder room with the garden lattice wall and the wheelbarrow soapdish and our sleeping bunny toilet seat cover" : )

These same people always have their dining room table set. With all sorts of dishes and serving pieces and placecardholders and centerpieces and geegaws. I guess that is one way to enjoy it. But I've not seen them eat there...

To my eye, it feels like a gift shop. It is always so hard to be an editor of your own stuff! Especially since, once you own it, it often feels like you need to find a place for it or pitch it, which hurts!

They must have a huge basement full of stuff!

    Lol @ Cindyloo.

Not my cup of tea either. Everything looks like 2/$3.00 cheap import stuff and with all the vignettes, the room looks contrived.

I do love fall though :)

There would have been a time when I would have really loved that style, and would have also done similar seasonal decor in my home.

Now I find that it seems too overstimulating and chaotic.

Has anyone else had a big 180 change on their accessorizing style over the years?

I don't know if it is maybe because I used to be home all day when the kids were small, and now with working full time and no kids at home it just seems less necessary. Or if it is just a matter of available time for upkeep. Or is it just wanting something different for a while. Or will I change back to want more (get tired of the less decorated look) ?

    Any thoughts?

I think we all agree...different strokes! If being surrounded by all that stuff brings joy to someone's life, I say they should go for it! And...since we're sharing our opinions, I too find it way over the top and downright cluttered, but I'm just not a "more is more" person.

My next door neighbor decorates like this outside for every holiday. Currently there are big flags, little flags, numerous pumpkins of various sizes, statues, figurines on sticks, etc. Passers-by seem to eat it up too! I just don't get it. To me it looks very junky and distracts from the beauty of the yard and plantings.

oakleyok - I should have never looked at that link, because one blog led to the next blog, which led to the next blog and I've spent the last 1 1/2 looking at blogs :)
I would never put the money and time into decorating for fall, but I think it's really pretty. I even saved some of her pictures for inspiration, because I like how she arranged some of her accessories. I tend to spread things out and I really like how she has layered things.

I liked it ok, I would have edited out the wooden pumpkins and maybe at least half of what was there.

Thanks for posting this Oakley, because I do have Fall decor on the brain today. I plan to put some pumpkins out on my porch steps today and hang a fall wreath on the front door. I also never tire of seeing how other people decorate, but I do tend to agree with Stinky on this one. At one time I would've just eaten this up, but I think my tastes have changed in such a way that now, it just seems contrived and "decorator-y", lacking a certain authenticity and charm. Of course, that's just my opinion, and I'm well aware that my own "style" is not appealing to the masses either! ;-D

More and more, I'm really drawn to vignettes that look as though they sort of accidentally "happened" - unstudied, yet still somehow artistic. I think it's very hard to master such a design style. I know I'm still very much a novice.

Oakley, I'm surprised you posted this thread. The girl who doesn't care for fall decorations in the house? ;)

Not my taste. I do recognize a couple people who commented also post on GW.

Speaking of vignettes ... it takes a special talent to turn cheap into doesn't-look-quite-so-cheap.

I love putting a fall wreath on my door to herald in the season, and I'd probably enjoy a few of the items she has out. It just too many knick-knacks for my taste. Where do you cook in that kitchen of excess?

I took another look at that blog and now I see why it reminded me of a craft store. It IS a craft store. There is a "store" attached to the site and the owner is peddling her seasonal items there.

I also took her "house tour" and I see that her kitchen is rather heavily accessorized for "everyday". When she added her seasonal decor, she kept all of the everyday accessories out as well.

When I put out holiday accessories, I generally remove an equal amount of everyday stuff. Am I the only one that does so?

I don't put out much holiday stuff. Only thing I can think of moving is the carved bird that sits on the hutch year round. He gets replaced Nov-Dec with a turkey then angel.

Way too much stuff. It almost looks like an estate sale where all the sale items are displayed. Where's Cari?

I think there is a real conflict of interest when a decorating blog becomes a decor seller. It an interesting dilemma.

Around here we have "fund raisers"...sometimes open houses, some time tours...the hostess, usually someone with a big wall to wall granite kitchen and a 2 story entry decorates to the hilt, the organization for whom the funds are intended sells tickets to the open house or tour....and people go and Ooh and Aah at the over the top seasonal decorations.
    That's what it looks like.
I remember one at Christmas....there were 14 full sized fully decorated Christmas trees....there were 5 clustered together in the front entry with white lights and silver ornaments....every windowsill was full of white lights and "something"....every window sill....every toilet tank top....every dresser had a small tree....
But real people don't live in a house like that!!!That's just for a one occasion show off...

Natal, I liked this kitchen because of the overall kitchen itself, and the decor just looked pretty. My problem is I see too man cutesy pootsie stuff that's really turned me off. I also don't like Fall colors inside a house for some reason, but her kitchen is a great background for those same colors. I could never pull it off.

I had no idea the blog is also a store! No wonder there's stuff out the wazoo in her kitchen. lol.

Cindyloo, I always put away my regular accessories when I decorate for the holidays. If not, then way too much clutter!

Mtnr, I also don't get why people keep a table setting always set up. For a holiday meal, yeah, I understand. Imagine all the dusting a person has to do!

Speaking of, I do need something Winterish for my DR table. I took the summer tablecloth off yesterday. I may just put my white lace table topper on and then it will be ready for Christmas decor! lol

We're hosting Thanksgiving again, and this year, the guest list is topping out at 30 or so. So far. So, I've been all over getting ideas for fall decor. Frankly, I like very little of it.

I also dislike the deep reds, bright orange, etc. in the home, and particularly my home. I much prefer a more organic, soft look. Faded burlap, shades of brown and tan, metallics, soft sages, etc.

I picked up the latest issue of Martha Stewart Living, thinking my girl Martha will definitely give me something, anything...nope. Not a thing.

I did find some pale, faded wheat stalks, in Walmart of all places, and I still have the fake white pumpkins from last year, and the scatter leaves that I painted with metallic Krylon. Maybe I'll add some nuts (in the shell) and call it good?

I don't care for all of the clutter, and just need a few ideas for tabletops, the fireplace, and a few other strategic areas that I'd like to add a little bit of fall decor.

I think it all looked cute, I don't like cute unless your talking about a person. I like to use real stuff.

Personally, it's not for me - but this is. Beautiful and easy to do (just buy the pumpkin and a bouquet of fall flowers)

More for Halloween, but I thought I'd add it in for inspiration just because I like it ;)
