Concrete kitchen countertops?

So we starting to think about renovating our kitchen, as it needs it. And like a lot of things we do, we aren't completely sure where to go with it.

My house was built in the 50's and we have tried to maintain some of it's originality. Our overall taste has been termed transitional. We like to mix elements of modern with traditional. We are also really into the reclaimed and iron looks on a lot of our pieces.

Obviously, granite is the go to look counter tops but honestly, I am not sure we want to go that route as it wouldn't necessarily match with the rest of the house. I mean, I understand that it is beautiful. But it may me too clean for our tastes.

So, the other option we have started to think about is concrete. I wouldn't mind going for some kind of industrial/rustic look. Anyone have any experience with concrete or opinions on this direction?

Also, granite obviously increases home value but are we potentially squeezing ourself into a corner by selecting something like concrete?

Thanks.
