random width, hand-scraped: too informal?

We're building a new house. We'll have wood floors almost everywhere except bathrooms, laundry room, 2 upstairs guest bedrooms. My floor guy suggests hickory/pecan, random width, and he wants to hand scrape them. I don't want the stain to be the dark/dark that is currently so popular, but neither do I want it light--just a warm medium. Our living room will be furnished with traditional furniture--wing chairs, traditional sofa, dark mahogany and walnut occasional tables, etc. Duncan Phyfe mahogany dining room table & chairs, antique walnut small buffet and china cabinet, etc. Would these random width, hand-scraped floors look too casual for our house? I would call in "comfortably traditional," not stiff and formal, some primitive antiques, very eclectic, really, though nothing really modern or contemporary. Thanks for advice!
