Pottery Barn

I went there today for the first time in my memory and of course everything was Christmas beautiful. I love that place! Now I know why everyone is always talking about it. I dont think I saw one thing that I wouldn't love to have in my house, and very few things that I could afford to. I may have to get a summer job there!

MT, and all those gorgeous Christmas decorations will be on sale after Christmas! That's the only time I shop PB. ;o)

I love a lot of their stuff too, but they are pricey. I like to use their displays for inspiration. Lots and lots of inspiration!

I used to like the PB catalogs that would display a paint swatch or small circle and the name of the color somewhere on the page. Do they still do that?

Yes, they still provide the dot of color on the page and tell you what it is. If you go into the store they will give you a free fan deck of their featured BM colors.

Man, now you're making me want to go to there! We're in the midst of getting my business off the ground so have ZERO play money right now, which really stinks when there are great Christmas decorations out there. I may have to make a stop by that shopping center, though. I can pop through PB, RH and Williams-Sonoma. It will get me energized to get the tree decorated. (Yes, we got the tree put up yesterday!)

No joke about getting a part-time job at PB, musicteacher. My daughter-in-law did exactly that and furnished her whole house. They have a very generous employee discount program which includes Williams-Sonoma.

You can also go to their website and you can get a breakdown of every color used by page # in the catalog. I briefly (ever so briefly) worked at PB but found it too difficult to do w/ their minimum amount of days requirements and the rather late hours that we would get out combined w/ my very early start time at my FT job.

I often think that the day that I do not pull FT hours is the day that I go to work for PB again to support my habit!

I keep a file of PB look a likes.

Still have to get to PBO!!!!

I went to PBO last summer, I was a little disappointed. It was pretty empty, and I don't think I scored a great deal.
Still love the store, and their accessories, but I wouldn't buy furniture, IMO it's overpriced.
I especially love how it's decorated at Christmas. I have to make 1 trip to the mall midweek in the morning every season, just to see it decorated.

I'm going this afternoon to use my $25 rewards card. I plan on getting the glass double drink dispenser if they have it since it's on clearance online but I need to be disciplined and try to not buy anything else. I've been on a home decor shopping spree lately and need to take a break!

Love the mercury glass and will probably shop the sales after the holidays.

While shopping at PB, please take note of all of their lovely items that are not made in our United States of America. I would like to think we're trying to take back our country, not continue the 'force feeding' of imports. With a little research i'm sure copy-cat PB style can be found that is made in the US~~sorry for the rant, but our country has been in a downward spiral and shows very few signs of changing if *we* refuse to. ;o)

Thank you patty_cakes. Pottery Barn shows very cute stuff. I hope that sometime soon people will start spending their money on quality built items that might someday become heirlooms.

I'm assuming that's an acknowledgement of 'my rant' Maddielee, and I thank you for that. I don't mean or want to insult forum members, but would like people to start'thinking from the heart' also. The home of the free, the strong and the brave, is suffering from a broken heart, and we are not doing our 'fair share' to turn things around. American pride? Prove it!

I look at it another way ; Pottery Barn and other retailers contribute to the U.S. economy, pay taxes, employ people etc....

I've looked at a lot of the Made in the USA sites and pickings are pretty slim. I suppose a consumer could make a real effort and buy only from those, for the principle. does anyone do that , shop exclusively made in the U.S. or go without?

Can we continue a light hearted thread on how pretty some of the stuff is at Pottery Barn ? lol..........

patty cakes - I hear you. I've never really bought much from PB -- too pricy for what it is. But I've gotten ideas from there. Even when making home-made holiday decor, though, it's hard to stay entirely away from Chinese product. Ribbon, wreath blanks, etc.

    (sigh)

My taste/style usually runs more toward Crate and Barrel (contemporary) than PB (transitional?), but I have gotten some nice things for my home there (scored on a daybed cover, daybed skirt and bolster pillow covers recently--30% off!). Their sales are decent, too.

Speaking of sales, anybody know if/when they will have a promo/coupon for the holidays? I've been eyeing a few things...! :-)

PB never does coupons that I know of but sometimes has free shipping and sales.

PB has a section of items offered with free shipping--the same things (mostly) that have been there for a long time.

If you have their credit card, they do send coupons. I just got one yesterday, but it's for a 1 time use only, and I am ordering some lights.

During the holidays PB will probably do their "bounce-back" promotion, which is a coupon for X off a future purchase with a certain dollar amount purchase today. The best way to know about this is to sign up for their e-mails.

I'm on their email list. I could have sworn I've gotten something in the mail (in a catalog?) or in an email some time in the past, for 20% (?) off.

I only have a few things from PB but I'm happy with their quality. Bedding and PB Kids duvets are great (no clumping so far) and I like the bedside lamps I just bought during their 20% Friends and Family sale.

Yesterday I used my $25 Rewards points and bought a double drink dispenser for half off. It wasn't marked down in the store but they honored the online clearance price. Marshalls/Home Goods has a single dispenser that's not as nice and is more expensive.

Can't wait to use it for Sangria!

I have no experience w/ their furniture quality but I swear by their pillow covers! I also bought DD a beautiful duvet and pillow shams and am very impressed w/ the weight and quality.

I just ordered a pillow cover yesterday that I'd wanted since the beginning of the Fall. Couldn't justify spending $39 on it though but I got it yesterday for $10.99 & free SH. So glad I checked their site yesterday!

I was once a HUGE PB fan. But I can't see spending the money on made in china. I am sorry. No more. I have the Christmas bird plates/pillow covers from a year ago? They are headed for the donate pile. All made in china. I've just changed. (Also the music papered taper candles, glitter stars, birds, etc)

In fact, most of my items that are china made have been donated.

I'd much rather own made in usa. Or handmade. Or where it would help some OTHER country. Not slave labor. I just can't.

I also have PB pillow covers and some of their bedding - very high quality. I love going to their after Christmas sales. I adore their serving pieces and covet their $200 lanterns - just can't bring myself to pay that though.

I love PB and like to browse their catalogues and the store for inspiration. I buy there some...but it is pricey! One word of caution...we purchased our DR table and chairs there about 10 years ago. After owning the chairs about 4 years, I had to take all of them to a furniture repair place locally to be re-screwed and glued as the back of the chairs were coming apart. Initially, I called the local PB (where I bought the chairs) and spoke with the manager to ask if they recommended anyone for repair. I was willing to pay for the repair as they were 4 years...I just wanted the chairs to be fixed. She said that she didn't know of anyone bc they never have issues with their chairs. When I found my own repair shop, the man there said "Oh, more PB chairs....work on 'em all the time!" He said the store send him all of their returns to fix for re-sale. The good side of the story is that since they have been fixed they are solid and still very much in-style! Unfortunately, my DH won't buy furniture from them anymore :o(

I don't know as much about PB as I once did -- I ended all catalogues (woo hoo!) and I am not a shopper, but what I remember I liked.

The Nate Berkus Show recently had an episode about Made in America, and they focused, of course, on Etsy but also other sites / stores (like Room & Board, Crate & Barrel, etc.) which feature furniture and other goods made in America.

Just jumping in here I guess at the tail end. I sincerely would prefer to not support the Chinese (and other) economy and do try to buy made in usa, but the truth is that time and money constraints don't always make that possible. A while back we had a thread or two listing companies and items made in the usa. Just sayin' I am totally for it, but sometimes it seems like it would take a full time job effort to comply (let alone afford it).
