Help - Dining Room Colors

I am just starting to paint my dining room. It was Laura Ashley Burgandy #4, but that was just too dark for my room. That room gets very little sun and it looked dark all the time.

My foyer color is Millet and my formal Living Room color which is right across is Desert Tumbleweed. I love the Tobacco Road which is in my family room and I was thinking of using it or Plantation Beige. These are all Duron colors.

I also like the Sage's but worry that it just be too dark again.

So I guess I am looking for help in what will help it not look so dark again.

Thanks,

Melissa

Melissa, are all of the color's you named LA?

Sage doesn't have to be dark at all & at first thought I think of sage's to be typically mid-tone but there are still many variation's of lightness or darkness.

Any chance that you have pic's to post?

What color is your trim & furniture in the DR?

With the colors you have going on, I think a green would look nice. Do you have any pictures to share that show furniture etc.? Greens often look good next to wood dining room furniture. I have BM Dry Sage in my dining room and like it alot. My room is pretty dark too, but I don't mind it for the dining room. I also have BM Olive Branch and like that as well. I have it next to Tobacco Road and like it together. Tobacco Road is a great color, so if you are comfortable with that, it's certainly a good option.

Do you have any pictures of Millet? I am thinking of that for my foyer. Long story, but I painted another color in my foyer next to the Tobacco Road and am not loving it. Would love to see the Millet as it is the main one I am considering if I repaint. FYI...I tried a sample of the Plantation Beige and it turned very green in my space. I have seen it elsewhere and it didn't, but here it did. Thanks and good luck!

I will try to post a picture later today of my foyer and of the dining room.

My furniture is a light cherry color. I will try to get pictures up.

Right now everything is a mess since I started priming it last night.

Do you have the BM Dry Sage on the whole wall? I have a chair rail and wondering if I should do it only one half.

I actually have a quart of the BM Dry Sage so I am going to try it later.

I have a chair rail too...here is a pic so you can see. Thanks in advance for posting the picture of Millet - I assume you like the color?

I think with a darkish room and dark furniture, I'd stay away from darker, cool colors like sage. If you wanted a green I'd suggest more in the pale, warm olives like BM Baby Turtle. But I've found lively colors in a DR encourage conversation and give it some spark!

With the reddish tones of cherry, think of that when choosing paints too to avoid a clash.

Here is the link to my album with the dinig room funiture, but all of my stuff for painting is on it now.

    My Album

I was trying to get an upclose picture of the foyer color. I think it is looking very grainy through photo bucket. I can email you the picture if you want.

I am not stuck on green, I guess I was just looking for a color to use there vs the Plantation Biege or Tobacco Road which again I love.

I have reds throughout my downstairs, so I guess if I did one of those I could use the reds in the accents.

Thank you for the pictures - that gives me an idea. I think Millet looks like a nice warm neutral color. In terms of your dining room, I really think a nice green would look good in there with your furniture and up against the Millet and Tobacco Road. I am not familiar with Desert Tumbleweed, but I assuming it is a goldish color as well. It seems like using another color (besides the gold-toned colors) would be a good idea and would differentiate your dining room. Maybe someone else will chime in...

Can I ask you what are curtains in your dining room.

Let look similar to mine, it was the Virginia Fabric. It is red floral. It also has the greens in it.

I also vote for a green. The orangey tones in your dining set would look best with a green and like polkadots said, a sage green doesn't have to be dark.
