Two tone kitchen? Pictures please

We're about to kick off our kitchen remodel and we're seeking opinions...our kitchen layout is a U + peninsula closing off the U. On the other side of the peninsula is the dining room.

We're trying to keep the dining room a bit formal, so we're thinking of having the built in be a dark red cherry stain. For our kitchen cabinets we're looking at a white/cream glaze. Countertops are a grey granite with some gentle waves of darker grey in it.

Our question...should we make the underside of the peninsula that faces the dining room the same dark cherry as the dining room built in?

Anyone have a similar situation to show? Our KD has suggested going the opposite direction...glazed in the dining room and cherry in the kitchen...any thoughts on that?

I have a very similar situation. I decided on doing the while kitchen creamy white, but was seriously considering doing the side of the peninsula in the DR in a cherry to match my DR and LR furniture. My KD, GC, DH, and friends talked me out of it. I'm now second guessing my decision. I think it would really look stunning in cherry and also be practical for not showing dirt from people sitting on the peninsula stools. Check out the finished kitchens, and then go with your gut. Thanks for the first timer tips. Why does the category sort of the mixed cabinets not show anything more recent the oct 2006? the blog itself has more recent kitchens, but the del.icio.us site seems stuck in 2006...

ND: the link for the Finished Kitchen Blog that Buehl posted doesn't go to the del.icio.us site. It's a separate site that you'll definitely want to bookmark. I had a hard time finding it my first few times.

Kudos to the web master who created the FKB. I can't imagine how you keep up with it.
