What a difference! I'm sure you're going to love your new kitchen. The only thing I could think of when I saw your old wallpaper was "Well, I don't think a colorful mosaic backsplash is an option!" I think you're probably DONE with squares for a good, long while!

Thanks for all the comical criticism. It was defintely deserved. I had added some more information to my original post that would have addressed some of your questions but I think I forgot to Preview before hitting Submit so it was lost. So here goes:

First, I'm a guy not a girl. LOL.

I hated the existing wallpaper when I moved into the house so I wanted a change. At the time, my "tastes" were all over the place and I every decision I made I wasn't happy with. So I decided to pick something out of my comfort zone in the hopes I would ultimately like it. You see how that turned out...

The dishwasher is about 23 years old and still cleans everything I put in it. There are no pot scrubber functions or anything else. 1 knob only. It is very loud. With all the stories I'm reading about today's dishwashers with cleaning problems, installation problems, venting problems and other mechanical difficulties, sometimes I ask myself, what am I doing?

Like I said I had added some more information to my original post about where I am trying to go with this renovation but I lost it somehow.
Cabinets are Kraftmaid, Dove White in the Shaker style.
Floors are going to be solid hardwood in some variation or another. This decision is what is holding up progress on the kitchen now. I've been to stores and all over the Interwebz trying to select flooring. It's a relatively small space, Coutertops - I was looking at granite but now I'm leaning towards quartz. It will likely be Silestone. Sienna Ridge has caught my fancy.
Lighting is a bit of a challenge with the vaulted ceiling. I was about to pull the trigger on some Rejuvenation schoolhouse style pendants when I saw the way the vaulted "hinge" was for all of their pendants. It's about 4 inches down from the canopy and I wasn't sure I liked the look. I still may go for them though since I've about reached the end of my ability to look all over the place.

Paint for now is BM, Thorton Sage. It's a nice color but not sure I'm thrilled with it. I may go back to something in the beige family...

Wow, you waited to remove that wallpaper?! I'm not sure I could have lived with it, not without taking migraine meds every single day. You've made great progress, looking forward to seeing the end result.

I had that SAME HD wallpaper in my 1990's-built home in Omaha - same cabinets too! We moved before we could do a full renovation, but I got that wallpaper down about 6 months after living there - we didn't have the snazzy border though. :)
Your renovation looks great so far! I would do the schoolhouse pendants. I think they would look awesome.
