Wolf induction clearance

Our new induction was intalled and it is gorgeous - the bad news, the special drawer that the KD had built doesn't meet the Wolf specs of 6.25 inches from the countertop to combustible.

Options - ignore and put ventilation into the back of the drawer

Put in a tilt out for a couple small items - not sure how functional but better than nothing.

Put in a wire bottom to the drawer instead of wood - has anyone tried this?

Any sources?

Note the second drawer front was replaced today, so no longer has a "crease" in the drawer - not that anyone but myself would spot on the picture....

Metabox? Blum's line of steel drawers to replace the wooden drawer, maybe??

Here is a link that might be useful: Metabox

I've looked pretty carefully at this issue because I'm thinking of retrofitting my smoothtop with Wolf induction. I've got ss counters and Wolf fits.

But I've also got a utensil drawer (what they call a scooped out drawer) directly below the cooktop. It's major. I would not switch out if it had to go.

But, since the bottom of my drawer is 7" from top of counter, I figured I could just have it shortened from the back by about 2 inches. That gives the air ventilation space required in the installation guide.

At worst, I figured the drawer could be drilled through the bottom and lined with fine wire mesh.

Perhaps one of those would work for you? I would call Wolf and see if there's any give in the install. At worst, perhaps there could be mesh panels installed on each side of the drawer front for ventilation, leaving the center solid for the pull?

Ci Lantro (cute) - It is a possibility - thanks for the tip

Rocco - some of the models require less clearance - I think Dakor is better for clearance that the Wolf.

I will call Wolf on Monday - sometimes their guides don't match the current product - for example, the oven says you must use their plug in pizza stone - but that was an old model...

If you find anything else interesting, let me know
    Thanks

Spent some time on figuring how to install the Wolf here because it's the only unit I'd buy that fits and I wanted to know what the domino effect would be. I'd have to call in the cabinet folks for a special visit as well.

I was thinking if there's enough vent space in back it might mitigate -- plllog says it gets hot underneath and she says she opens her drawer. But I wouldn't want to have to stand back.

I'm betting there's a workaround for you. This can't be the first time someone will have called Wolf with this question.

Thanks Rocco - I am sure not.
The KD and appliance folks should have known this before designing the drawer. KD is off until Tuesday, so will discuss with her also.
Can't wait to try my new Wolf. It is howling for attention!!
Just about to post some pictures.

I don't have an answer for your drawer but it made me wonder what the clearances were for my Dacor Renaisssance gas cooktop. The carpenter did have to adjust the front to back length of the drawer to accomadate the gas line and he cut down the height of the drawers sides a little.
The specs. stated the following:â Allow a minimum 1/4" (6 mm) clearance between the bottom of the cooktop chassis and all combustible surfaces, including the upper edge of a drawer installed below the cooktop.
That quite a bit different than the 6 inches you need! I hope you get to have that drawer below the cooktop. It's a nice drawer for things like BBQ tools, oversize knives, trivets etc.

Thanks Badger - something new everyday!
I have 2 drawers that I can use if needed...

For sure the KD/cabinet folk should have pulled the specs and designed that drawer and the adjacent drawer stacks accordingly. That's KD 101. But it's clear you're on top of it.

Can I ask you some questions about the cooktop when it's all done and you've been using it for a while? I've been wavering on the wisdom of the switch out (mine would be a 36") because of the domino effect. I tried it out at the showroom but haven't found someone to give a IRL assessment.
