Wow, that is some stunning granite! Do you have a sample at home so we can a picture with your cabinet finish? Are you doing honed or polished? Personally, I think you could do either polished or matte tile, but I might prefer to keep the finishes the same. I would probably stick with a fairly simple backsplash to allow the beauty of the granite to take center stage.

What about some ceramic tiles in a cream color that picks up on the cream swirls? Maybe something like Bee's arabesque or subway shaped or square if you like. You could even look at crema marfil marble.

You could alternatively pick up some of the golden tones and maybe use a golden toned tile. Consider ceramic, porcelain, glass, and maybe even stone (like travertine).

Otherwise, if it doesn't sound too dark, you could choose a charcoal or dark gray that picks up on some of the mid-darker tones of the granite.

Thinking about crema marfil 2 x 4, polished, good idea? Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I was going to recommend some type of stone, crema marfil is a pretty one. There is a picture of a honed crema marfil 2x4 on the attached link, about 6 down the page. I think stone will give you the rustic look you are mentioning, plus the variations are a great way to tie together all your colors.

Thank you calimama...we are on the same page, literally! I looked at that pic earlier and decided that crema marfil would work, not too busy, warm and simple. I wanted someone else's opinion because it appears that most kitchens these days are white and I am feeling a bit like the oddball. Thanks again for your time and input.

I am just in the process of remodeling my kitchen (Everything done except paint) and I went with a black Cambria Countertop with blue speckles in it. I used a multicolor blue glass backsplash. I resisted using glass for a long time but then everyone I showed my countertop pics to said glass would perfectly compliment it so I finally did use glass and I am happy I did now tht it's in. See pics below.

Do you have some sample tiles you could stand up against the wall and take some pics of? I don't know about most people, but that makes a difference for me in commenting on a request for backsplash help.

Here goes my two pennies...I don't like to use a different stone for a backsplash than the countertops. In fact, the only time I like a stone splash is when it's marble. I usually prefer a ceramic, porcelain, what-have-you, man-made tile. But that's just me. If that were my beautiful granite, I wouldn't want anything with a pattern or wild color to distract from it.

Could you try some tiles that pull out the vanilla-y, caramel-y tones from the counter? Nothing tumbled because you've got that going on the floor already and your granite reads much more chic than that.

Oh, and you mentioned beige. There are LOTS of shades of beige out there. Don't dismiss them. Go to a few tile stores and get some samples. Then show us. We love to vote on bs tiles! :)

Thanks for the advice fellow gardenwebbers! The backsplash is in and I love it! It is very simple but it's what I pictured in my head. Some may say boring but I like the reflection from the tile and the granite still stands out. Just waiting for my new kohler faucet. A fresh coat of paint (BM Aura Soleil) makes a big difference too!
