backsplash with soapstone

Thinking gets me into trouble. I am leaning towards soapstone countertops, but with wood cabinets (not white). But I don't know what kind of backsplash to put with it. Many of the pics that I see are the white cabinets or a soapstone bs...I don't want to lose the ss with a dark bs, could I do a travertine or a lighter type stone? Is there one besides marble?

I have natural cherry cabinets, soapstone counters and linen white bead board. Have you seen Holligator's kitchen? She had cherry cabinets, soapstone counters and hand made white subway tiles, it is lovely! There are so many options that would look good I would suggest googling for images and visiting a good tile store with samples of your cabinet and counters.

Remodelfla is being too modest... she should post pix about her awesome ss & bs. Pix tell way more than descriptions....

I had to turn in my Mac to school for the end of the year and can't for the life of me figure out how to copy/paste with DH's older PC. There is no toolbar for such functions and I can't seem to find where/how to enable a toolbar. Not giving up on it yet but it's gonna suck this summer if I can't imbed pics/text/links with his dinosaur of a computer.

I have rustic cherry cabs with soapstone perimeter counters and just ordered Trikeenan Modulus tile in the satin crackle finish for the backsplash.

The kitchen has been up and running for 5 months, but waiting on me to make a decision on the backsplash. It seemed to be the hardest single decision for me. The cabs, counters, appliances, flooring, I knew what I wanted. The KD suggested several stone products, but after bringing them home, they just didn't seem right. After several more trips to the tile store, I came home with something I said I didn't want...crackle subways. But I knew once I saw them in the kitchen, they were the tiles for me. Remodelfla inspired the 4x12 size and pattern layout (Thanks RFla!)

I'm glad it helped! I love Trikeenan. It was one of my contenders and may be a contender when I financially recover and do my master bath. It's the only room in this house that has not yet been gutted.

SS looks great with a white cabinet or wood. With either, a cream tile picks up the veins in the ss. Or a green tile if you have the green ss. Did you look at the finished kitchen blog, specifically ss counters?

Thanks. Yes, all of my google searches give me white cabinets. Even the fkb gives mainly white cabinets. Just trying for a little more inspiration.

Love the glass remodelfla! But I don't think it would work with what I'm attempting to invision. sigh.

cosmocat, I KNOW I have seen what you are looking for. I googled and here is what I came up with. repaintingagain asked this question: Pics of dark cabinets with ss or black honed counter. Boxerpups came up with some examples of both. The cabinets are actually medium not very dark from what I see in the photos. See what you think!

Go to google and type in the "pics of dark cabinets...." question and repaintingagain's thread will come up. You will see the examples that Boxer posted in this thread.

I have bottom cabs painted green and uppers that are QS oak, with soapstone counters. I used a soft yellow subway tile in a herringbone pattern, with some Motawi arts and crafts tiles as accents.

Here is a link that might be useful: not yet finished oak and soapstone kitchen

We are getting ready to remodel or kitchen next month and are using soapstone with natural cherry cabs as well. I found a quartzite subway (2x4") tile for our bar wall and a random size (smaller) mosaic for the kitchen backsplash. They are the same stone, just different sizes. I just returned the samples today and didn't even think to snap a picture. They are multicolored but all light neutrals. It looks great with the wood/ss and does help to lighten it up without going totally white. We are also using a limestone tile for the floor, which will lighten it up as well. I'll pick up the backsplash tile on Friday and figure out how to post a pic.
