We have pompeii and it has all those colors with lots of white and pink quartz running through it. You have to see it in person because pictures don't do it justice.

Thanks for the images. Wow - the Rosewood GT does look great. I haven't seen anything quite like that yet. Does it go by any other name? The Ivory Chiffon looks kind of like a Shivakashi Pink which I have been looking at as well.

I like the Ivory Fantasy as well. So you're thinking I should use the same colors - the pinks, whites and grays?

What about a Crema Bordeaux or would adding a Salmon color be stretching it?

With that wood and that much pink already, I'd stay way from trying to add more pinks or reads and look at something in a charcoal -- something like the jet mist or the Ceasarstone I saw recently -- was it Raven? I would go more grey and softer than soapstone or an absolute black. Compliment the pinks, but don't add to them. You've got enough going on already.

Thanks lascatx -- Jet mist was one of the first stones that caught my eye. My DH wasn't too thrilled about it but I am a soapstone lover and have not been able to convince him of it. I thought maybe the Jet mist would be the compromise and it would definitely go. Just got some Ceasarstone samples in some grays and whites and they are looking pretty good. I'm thinking I might even mix the two.

Have you seen elizpiz's kitchen? Because she has a look similar to your fireplace behind her hood and Soapstone (and if those pictures don't convince your husband, then there is no hope. LOL).

I like the layered stone with its grays, creams and pinks.
There are lots of different Granites you could go with. I
like the idea of something to go with the chimney. To
pull the chimney into the entire decor.

Hi Swickbb  I just saw your question about Rosewood GT. I donÂt know if it goes by other names, but IÂm pretty certain itÂs not a name made up by the granite dealers. If you google it, youÂll get a lot of hits.

I think Boxerpups photo  6th one from the bottom  looks very much like Rosewood.

I still think Rosewood would look nice, but I also agree that Jet Mist (or other gray), would be lovely as well. It depends on what floats your boat. :-) Sorry - I know that's not much help.

WHOA boxerpups! Thanks for all that eye candy! It certainly helps me to get some more ideas one of which is to possibly add a mirrored gray and cream stone as a backspash. And to gardenburgher -- that rosewood granite is looking pretty good. The picture boxerpups put in of it really shows how it could look. I'm going to photoshop a rosewood image onto a current kitchen image I have and check that out.
Rubyfig, thanks for the link to elizpiz's kitchen. Her stone backsplash is also inspirational. Something like that might look great to tie in the Rosewood maybe?

Here's another pic of a different view of my current kitchen looking at the fireplace.

The counter currently connects to the backside of the dining room with a pass through. The new 'huge' island will be flat and regular counter height unless I decide to bi-level it. You can see how I really would need to consider the pink and gray stone in the fireplace.

This image is with my sample cabinet (color only, I am getting shaker style) and a piece of White Wave granite that has the gray and whites in it. The slab on the lot looked great with a nice wave but seemed a little too dark gray at home.

Here's the pricey Super White quartzite - really lovely and nice and bright with a marble-look but etched like crazy on the acid test. I might as well get marble then if that's what it is going to do. It did NOT stain at all with red wine though.

Thanks for your help everyone. It's really helping me to narrow down my choices. I love the input from everyone and I'll remember it every time I talk about how I put this kitchen together with your help (even though it drove my cabinet guy nuts when I would suggest another change and say I how I got another idea from here... LOL!).

It might seem dark but once you get in on your counters it will look amazing.

Anyway, just my vote. The other grantie is nice too but it does not tie in with your stonework.

Now what about that brick in the back right?
Have you thought about painting it? Cover it with a gray... Maybe.
So many woods and stones that I think if
you tie in the counters to the stone work the woods will
work together better. But think about what you like and
what you want to work with . It will all look beautiful. : )

Hey Boxerpups that White Wave does go really well when you look at close like that doesn't it?
My DH actually wants to paint or tile the old wood paneling and others have suggested it as well but I was wondering if there was a reason in the initial design why it was put there with all those conflicting lines and textures. Interesting idea about painting the brick. I did think about that as well. You can't really tell from the photo but the stone in the fireplace does have some stones that are that dark brick color. I was wondering if some granites that had that brick red color running through them would pick that up and work as a countertop as well.
That White Wave is looking better as a match though.

Don't rush to chose the wave. Wait maybe something more
compelling will catch your eye.

I am not sure why so many woods, stone, brick etc..
It may have been various materials added over time or
something the previous owners loved. You can always
change things to suit you. Painting is a nice cheap way
to change.
Garden Web lady, Remodelfl always has great ideas.
I am going to see if she will look at your pics and
help out. She has great taste.

There are some red granites but that might be too much
in your space. You have to really think about keeping
it simple when there are lots of textures and colors.

In any case I think you will make a beautiful place.

boxer kills me with all those fabulous pics. I try and post/research but get so sidetracked staring at and following all the pics/links.

I'm just not feeling the dark granite for your space. From your pics it seems almost like a Mid Century kind of home... BEAUTIFUL! I think your stonework on your fireplace is just gorgeous. I would not paint it. However, with all the angular lines of the walls/ceilings/stonework; I'm somewhat bothered by the wood walls. I love wood, covet your wood floors; but I do think your home would be so much more "refreshed" without the wood walls. I also think it would make the fireplace really POP. I'd either take the wood off and skim coat/paint, or I know I've seen episodes on some home remodeling show where they used some product to fill in the cracks and then skim coated/painted, OR... last resort... pull the wood off and re-sheetrock and paint. I'd love a soft gray color against that stone.... a warm light gray.

ANyway... to countertops. Are you kitchen floors the same wood? Sorry if I missed that somewhere. I think I'd choose a light almost white gr
anite for the kitchen. Your cabs are going to be a beautiful rich color. If the floors are also wood, I'd love the soft look of a whiteish granite. HOw about something like Andromeda White? Alku05 has it in her gorgeous kitchen. I hope it's OK I'm embedding her pic:

I knew you would come up with great ideas for Swicbb's
kitchen. That was why I pestered you. You have great
vision, creativity and ideas. You are so on target.
I love the idea of a soft grey. The Silver Fox by BM would
be a perfect gray to compliment the wood and the stone.
Oh this kitchen has so much potential hidden under
the panelilng.

I have been loving that kitchen with the Andromeda white and one of the slabs that I picked in the warehouse so far was Bianco Romano which looks like the Kashmir White. Unfortunately it is also a little pricier than the standard granites.

I checked back with the fabricator and I had an idea to go with a marble to pull in a white/gray on one of the countertop spaces at least. Also got a bigger sample of the White Wave so I could see how it would look. They have two slabs on the property that would work in the kitchen. I will get a picture of the whole slab in a couple of days. Check this out:

This is right where the new island will be which is under the skylight so you can see how these two would look. The fridge will be moved across the room but still be only a few feet away.

So I'm still torn because I really like the White wave and I also really like the Bianco Romano (much more expensive than the WW so far) but nice and white with specks. See how it looks with the cabinet and the picture? I think the Wine River works well too but more mellow. I'm going to have to look around for something that Andromeda but I can tell already that's its probably one of the higher end ones.

And, Remodelfla - My DH and I both agree we should nix the old wood paneling on the wall next to the fireplace. Probably the easiest thing to do is to just paint over it. I have done that in the past with old paneling and it works just fine with a primer and another coat of color. And I really like the idea of the color you suggested. I can see everything finally tying all in together!

So what do you all think about the White Wave vs the BR? Is the WW too busy against the fireplace?
I have been thinking about quartz as well and have some samples. Seems calmer and I would have less cleaning woes.

I love LOVE marble. I do think though that the piece (carerra?) is too cool a white in your setting. The WW... Just absolutely loving it. Is the last pic Bianco Romano? Unfortunately... $$ wise, that's the one I love the most but the WW is still fabulous to me.

OH... just had a thought. I wonder how a piece of Danby marble would look. It's a warmer white with caramel and gray veining in it.

Yes, the last picture is the Bianco Romano. The same place has the wine river as well which has a little more gray but is still really nice. I have one other stone place to visit and their prices are less so maybe that would help. Are there any other white granites on that same look that are in a less pricey range or is all the pretty stuff naturally going to be more?

The marble is Calcutta Ono. I was only going to put it on a desk/bar area (no sink) that is only 63 inches long on the back wall of the kitchen. If that's too white the stone place has lots of remnants. I'll ask if they have Danby. I'm not picky about that - all the carrera looks great too, just softer. And the misty carerra Caesarstone looks good too.

So far my floors are just going to be Red Oak. All the rest of the floors are that so it'll give it some continuity.

The stone called White Wave I have found is also Piracema White. I am still going back and forth between the Bianco Romano and the 'Piracema' but still am hoping to have some marble on a 63 inch line of cabs at least. Remodelfla - why is the calcutta too White do you think? Too much contrast? The Danby seems to be even more expensive and unless someone has a remnant that might not work for my budget. Got a couple pieces of sealed Carrara to test on but they are really white and they don't look right either. And, they definitely etched very easily. No stain but etching. I'm trying to see if I could live with that. I think I'd probably etch it all up right away and be done with it! It is soooo beautiful though.
