How big is the window, and what would it cost to replace with the one you really want?

FWIW, when our windows arrived, I hated them -- what had looked like clear vertical grain fir in the showroom turned out in our windows to look like a zebra -- mixed heartwood and sapwood, light and dark stripes. But now I don't even notice the stripes.

So I guess the bottom line is, if you've lived with the window for several months and it still annoys you price out what it would cost to replace it. Was the miscommunication from your end or the contractors? Maybe he would split the cost with you?

You could just get some new sashes (if it's a double hung) or one sash if it's a casement. You wouldn't need to get a whole new window. We actually had to replace a sash on a double hung after a 7 yr old put a golf ball through it accidentally. The sash isn't as expensive as getting a whole new window, frame and all.

Yes. If the size is okay but you don't like the grids, just get a new sash. We had to replace a sash because the inspector came in and said it needed to be tempered. The sash replacement really wasn't that expensive (just that it was tempered glass that made it expensive). We didn't have to take out the whole window to replace that section.

I'd look into what it'd cost to replace that section. Esp since it sounds like it is only 1 window.
