Kitchen Cabinet Matching?

I moved into a home with a certain type cabinetry. I want to finish out another corner of the kitchen with more cabinets. However, I am not sure or cannot find out where these cabinets are from - How do I get new cabinets to match?

Along with the countertops? the countertops are granite.

Find a local cabinet shop that does color match finishing. We order our doors custom made and then match the finish at our shop. Most door styles are fairly standard. If you find the original manuf. and style usually the color will not match from the factory.

Unless the door style is very simple, matching your cabinets with a custom cabinet maker is likely to prove frustrating and expensive. A better option would be to deliberately mismatch the new cabinetry in a complementary color (white paint, darker stain, etc.) to make it look more like a free standing piece. If you'd like to tie it in to the rest of your cabinets, you can always add a detail to your molding in the complementary color. This is a very popular look, and can be a LOT less money than seeking out custom cabinets.

I have to disagree, yes it can be expensive to have cabinets custom matched, however we do it all the time for customers, and it is not much more than we charge for our regular custom cabinets. As far as simple door style goes, companies manufacturer custom doors, so doors can be more complex in design than you would probably ever see. I am not saying that your alternative solutions are bad, I am just saying that a company like mine has no problem matching up cabinet finishes and door styles.

This is my nook in my kitchen that I would like new cabinets put in

Here are some pictures of my existing cabinets

And here is my countertop - they actually look much more black - I think my flash is bringing out the specs in the granite.

So any suggestions? I do not think I like getting a complimentary other color. doesnt seem right.

How much would I be looking to put something there? the left was is 3 ft long and the one in front or to the right is 3 1/2 feet long.

Any suggstions would be welcome - I would like lower and upper cabinets along with putting a wine fridge in.

Ideas? what about a corner cabinet combination?

This might help get more responses:

Do you have pictures that have a wider angle shot? It would help, I think, to be able to see the nook in the context of the rest of the kitchen as well as see a bigger view of the cabinets.

    Here are some other shots...

    excuse the mess....

any ideas? is it even possible to put cabinets in that nook?

If your butcher block is here to stay; I'd suggest to put in black cabinets with a wood/butcher block counter.
It would tie in with your kitchen: since you have dark wood cabinets and nearly black countertops, the inverse would look cool in that nook. Plus you already have that black shelf and wine rack there. I think you are very likely to find a similar door style. Here is an example:

This is still dark, but not black if you want to go into a different direction. (I thought I saw a greenish glaze on your original cabinets, but that could be my monitor too):

Another solution that might be cheaper than ordering cabinets and have them installed; is to go for a small inexpensive sideboard or buffet in black and then have a butcher block top mounted on it.

When I saw the wide angle shots, I immediately thought the same as m nk... match the new cabinets to the butcherblock island. I think it would look fantastic.

Your cabinets are beautiful, but honestly, I think they would be hard to match.

where do I get a butcher block countertop? Any cabinet store?

lumberliquidators.com, and ikea has very reasonably priced butcherblock, too.

blakeas, your kitchen is beautiful. I love your green paint colors. Can you tell me what they are? Thanks so much.

well - as you see, I have some different swatches of that I am trying to determine which color I want. I am not sure of the original green however. Thanks, I appreciate the comment!

My first thought was black as well. I love the look of mixing woods in a kitchen.

No matter what you do, I'd suggest trying a mock up with small tables, plywood, cardboard, whatever...to see if you can maneuver comfortably in that space.

I wouldn't try to match existing cupboards, you have the perfect opportunity to tie in with the black which will look way better than being 'off' with the cabinets. I also suggest looking for a corner cupboard- (though it isn't easy, it took years before I found one).

Here's a pic of our corner cupboard (excellent use of space- we can store a lot of glasses and dishes in there).

the space is pretty open - I just wanted some additional storage and maybe a wine fridge.
