Calling all Ikea Domsjo farm sink owners!!

I really want this sink, but dont want the ikea sink base or faucet. Is there a place I can find the specs for the base or the sink so I am sure to do it right? Thanks!

    I know you're out there... ;)

I think Cali_Wendy has the double bowl.

joyjoyjoy, you should check out ikeafans.com there are many people on that board who have these sinks or have installed them. I believe the forum is kitchen planning and ideas.

thanks Kathe. I posted there first but no answers yet. I searched and found lots of info on how to fit their base with another sink, but I want to flip flop that. I know I've seen several of those sinks in photos on here.... I guess I could just go get the sink, and then I'd know, but Ikea is a 2 hour drive. I want to get everything I need there in one stop.

    thanks Breezygirl - I'll see if I can email Cali_Wendy :)

I think I was wrong about Cali_Wendy. I know she has a double-bowl, but I think it's not IKEA. I can't remember who had the Domsjo. Here are three threads I found where some posters mention having the sink so you could try them instead. Sorry for sending you down the wrong path!

This sink is an overmount- meaning it sits on top of the counter. The sinks are heavy - the smaller one weights almost 75 pounds.

When you buy the sink, it comes with two metal bars and a pair of fairly odd sink clips. The two bars go across the front and the back edge of the cabinet. The sink is seated partly on the bars (altho, they mostly hold the cabinet together) and ON the countertop. The metal bars are fixed length and may not fit well into another cabinet.

Both sides of the sink have a lip that sits on the counter. It might be possible to route the sides of your cabinet or the adjoining cabinets and try to undermount one, but I know nothing about the mechanics of doing it.

The pair of odd sink clips simply tie down the sink to the cabinet so it can't be pulled out accidentally.

I have the single bowl. It is supported by the counter, not the cabinets. The two metal bars are for bracing the cabinet, not supporting the sink. My sink doesn't even touch them, just rests slightly above them, although that's probably due to my counters being pretty thick.

I was planning on putting the Domsjo sink into a different base cabinet, until I realized my cabinets couldn't be reused and went the all IKEA route. I do remember being able to find some info on IKEAfans relating to this, although the site can be pretty frustrating to search.

This link has some of the official instructions including both the single and double bowl Domsjo's, which may be of help.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Here's a thread from Ikeafans that may help you.

If it helps, when they sell you the base cabinet to go with the Domsjo sink, it's just a regular sink cabinet minus the false drawer fronts at the top, so it stands to reason that any other standard sink cabinet, as long as it's the same size, should work.

I remembered after posting those instructions that they were totally confusing to me before I got my sink, I had no idea what they were talking about with the notches in the counters, etc. It all made a lot more sense once I had it in front of me and could start to see how everything fit together.

If you have more specific questions or want me to take some pictures, let me know.

Call your local Ikea, I heard that some still have sinks in storage just not on display or their website.
