Thanks tryin2grow...couldn't quite figure it out.

First -- take the two arm chairs and put them on each side of the china cabinet -- that will create a nice balanced look for now ..... and slide the tree over to the corner by the window. Consider looking for a small cabinet (IF there is room -- hard to tell from the photos) for that area -- you could use it for storage and place a lamp there.

As for colors -- what colors do you have around your home? Check out art.com -- browse through the categories to find artworks that appeal to you THEN check out stores like T.J. Maxx, Marshalls etc., Kirklands for artworks .....

How about a rich darker brown below the chair rail -- and a blue above it? BUT wait until you've found artworks -- an inspiration piece can REALLY affect the exact tone and colors in a room ......

Start checking on the lighting sites -- and don't forget to consider adding a plain ceiling medallion BEFORE you hang the chandelier -- always a nice touch!

For an area rug -- first move the chairs OUT from the table -- as if you sitting there -- THEN measure the whole space around the table and the pulled-out chairs .... thats the correct size for a rug.

For ideas check sites like Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware .... always great ideas for finishing rooms there!

This is one of many choices for rugs. It has a soft robins egg blue like the walls of the above pic. It's also a more traditional style rug, which your furniture seems to be.
