We need new window coverings!

We are in need of some expect design opinion to help us replace our existing window coverings. All windows are on the same floor, just different rooms. However, it's an open concept floor plan, so all rooms ate visible from one another. We've entertained ideas of fabric roller shades, modern roman shades, and wood shutters, but we're aiming to keep the clean contemporary look of the house.
Advice will be greatly appreciated.

Shutters are a great choice to bring all your windows together. If you like a sleeker look, choose shutters with a hidden/reear tilt bar.

Staying with white shutters are still the most popular way to go, and cover your windows completely so you can add trim.

If you find you still want drapery panels, you can hang those on top of the shutters, but use straight panels, no tie backs. And I'd lower the panels to no more than 8" above the top of the shuters; not all the way to the ceiling.

Another great product is Hunter Douglas Silhouettes, Vignettes and Duetes. They're all very clean, and can go either contemporary or formal.

Thanks Chrysteen for your suggestions and quick response. We too also like the silhouettes and shutters. My concern with shutters is I feel it may make the room feel smaller, but you had some good suggestions with drapes and panels.
In your opinion, could we have silhouettes or shutters on all windows except the kitchen and have a roller shade above the sink? Would it look to mix and match? A window rep came out to the house and recommended not to use Vignettes above a sink. Who knows!

Yes, you can mix the treatments. If you're messy in the kitchen, it's much easier to clean the roller shades since they are meant to be wiped down.

And shutters don't make a room look smaller. You didn't ask, but you can use panels with any of these treatments and they really finish the treatment off.

Shutters are difficult to clean as well as shades that have ribbons. I have had both. Roller Shades are easier maintain.

Then roller shades would be my recommendation. See if you like any of the textures and colors, then go for it. Let me know what you decide to do.

I like the look of shutters. I have roller shades on almost all of my windows, some with panels and some without. I like the ease of operation and they don't seem to collect dust. I don't think shutters are particularily hard to clean with a feather duster.

I would suggest a layered treatment as well. You could choose from roman shades or roller shades for your functional treatment and then layer with drapery panels. Rollers and romans are also much less expensive than shutters. Roller shades lend themselves to a more modern interior whereas romans can be more transitional and flexible with their many styles and fabric options. Best of luck!

Wow, so many great suggestions, thank you all. The Roman shades are really beautiful. I'm trying to imaging them in the dining room (with the two windows). I'd like the living room and dining room to match. I will look at some of of the websites you suggested. Thanks.

Just so you know, in case you are bothered with spiders around your windows, silhouettes can get dead spiders inside of the cells, and they are hard to clean out unless you have a long small-diameter vacumn wand with reduced suction.

personally I love the look of inside mounted roman shades. The style of the fabric determines the look of the shade or you can go with woven wood ones in any color.
