How wide is the hood? What kind of cooktop/range are you getting? BTUs?

I don't think 27" is too deep.

You really need a 42" hood for a 36" cooktop. Others on here have been able to do calculations regarding BTUs and CFM. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Briana is right in that, ideally, a 36" range should have a 42" wide hood. The hood should also be at least 24" deep.

Another factor to consider as to whether or not this is the best hood for you is the size of the blower. How many CFMs does the hood have? And how many BTUs? This isn't exactly what you asked in your OP, but it's still very important to consider the CFMs vs. BTUs.

As to the depth, 27" is great and can help make up for the lack of extra sizing on the width. Plllog, who cooks a lot and for dozens of people, has a 27" deep Modernaire hood.

I'm going with the 24". It's a pro hood so I think We'll be ok & I was told if you start it up before cooking it should work fine. I also got the bigger blower.
