Since your style is more contemporary you could us track lighting. This would give you the flexibility to configure the track over the table and add a pendant or series of pendants. This would also allow you to use extra spots on art or as wall washers too.

Have you thought about having the electrical box moved?

I think a drum pendant would look great with your furniture. I hope that's what they are called. The type of pendant with a round material shade.

We have the same issue in our breakfast nook and decided to move the box and repair the ceiling.

Can you give me a rough estimate of the cost of moving the electrical box. I would prefer to move it but I thought that it would be very expensive to hire an electrician.

You can't go by me with regards to an estimate. I can't imagine it costing more than $75, if that.

We are using one the of the electricians who worked for the electrical contractor for our builder. His price is very good. He just left me an estimate last night. We are having 2 ceiling boxes moved, a switch moved, and an outlet for the LCD installed for $175. Almost too good to be true. I have not talked to him yet since his call.
