I went with the Kohler Whitehaven and love it. My sink is deep (almost too deep) and the apron is about 2 1/2 inches out from the cabinet face, just like a standard apron front sink would be. The front of the cabinet had to be trimmed to accomodate the sink (a template is provided with the sink) but the rest of the cabinet was fine as is. You will still need to build a frame of sorts to support the sink as the cabinet alone could not bear the weight. It looks just like a standard farmhouse sink as far as I'm concerned, but my GC told me it was a dream to install compared to other sinks. I am very happy with it.

THank you. Can you post a pic? What part of it is "self trimming" is that the front apron slots? Did your countertop have to be cut differently to fit that style?

the self trimming portion means the front apron part overlays the cabinet. The cutout can be more rough than a traditional one. The short apron version of this sink can fit into a standard sink base cabinet, no special apron front sink base is required. The countertop does not need to be made any differently. Unlike a shaws sink, the forward projection is set.

I don't know the difference, but I do know my cabinet maker told me that the Shaws famhouse sink are the biggest pain in the neck for them.
