Final Kitchen Plan---Maybe!

I've gone round and round with the KD from the custom cabinet company, trying to come up with this plan. She didn't want to give me this plan, but I told her we were done if she didn't. I have been totally frustrated w/o a plan with measurements from her. She's putting pressure on me to make a decision, but as of right now I have no price from her.

I am also working with another custom cabinet maker and really like his work. I saw him again yesterday and he will have a new drawing and price quote for me by tomorrow.

When I posted my first ideas a couple of months ago, I was thinking I might change my window by the kitchen sink, to a long horizontal style. Instead, I've decided to stick with my casement crank out window.

I'm going for a clean uncluttered look, contemporary with slab birch cabinets, quartz counter top. Appliances will be mostly Electrolux Icon (speed oven, single wall oven and warming drawer all stacked), 36" induction, DW and the refrigerator will be the new Samsung 4-door French door.

Your thoughts, please. This part is scary!

Do the aisle measurements include the countertop overhang, or is that cabinet front to cabinet front? If it's cabinet to cabinet, then you have to subtract 2 to 3" per aisle for your counter overhangs, and your aisles are looking pretty tight.

The island corner behind the cooktop looks like it has the potential for a bumped hip or rear when working at the stove or opening the oven. And the main path from the ref to the sink is behind the cooktop, so it could get tight there.

It looks like you have lots of space to the right of the island... can you move it right by a couple of feet, and maybe even make it longer to the right? That way you'll open up the walk between ref and sink, and you won't have that corner so close to the cooktop.

I still need to double check her measurements for the aisles. I narrowed the fridge wall and gained some more space and I don't think she figured it in.

I do plan on shifting the island to the right some and the island is 30 X 60 with a 10" overhang on the dining area end.

Hi Nancy,

I'd skip the KD. She sounds like she's more interested in her paycheck than your contentment. If you have to go through her to get the cabinets you want, just make sure that you're really getting exactly what you want.

I can't see the plan well--I'm assuming the fridge is the large rectangle with the bump out, and the range and dw are the shaded ones? I'm very concerned with the three wall layout. If you move the island far enough that you won't have to walk around it, you lose it as an alternate counter area for the perimeter. That might be okay if it's mostly for a little more storage and a dumping ground/buffet/whatever. I'm not saying the plan is really bad, but it concerns me.

Have you done the full sized play cooking with the layout test?
