Christmas cards

Where do you put your received Christmas cards during the season?

In a basket. For a few years I displayed them on 3" wide ribbons hung from the top of an interior door similar to this:

In a small sled type decoration that I keep near the fireplace.

I have a plastic flat wreath with slats in it. I'll have to take a pic when I get some cards.

For the "old fashioned" (my personal preference) I hang those on a garland, and will frame one if it's especially pretty on my Christmas/Landscape picture wall.

For the family picture cards I put in a wooden snowman basket I bought at a craft fair.

If I end up with a lot of cards, some of them go on the fridge.

On a silver tray on the coffee table or an end table.

Years ago we used to tape them to the French doors dividing the FR/Kit/Nook from the Foyer/LR/Etc, but now so many send Christmas letters to go with or replace their cards, that we switched to a container. I have an old handmade wooden box lined with tiny red gingham and with wooden gingerbread men on the outside of it. I keep it on the end table so that visiting family can browse and read all the cards & letters while relaxing, and the container is open so the cards are quite visible. I've found that our girls who are married now love to go through all the cards when they come back home to see what's happening with our friends.

i use them to decorate the side shelves and top of our entertainment center in the family room... stand them up daily as they come in...the overflow, letters or some of the photos i just pile in a basket.....

All our cards get taped to kitchen cupboards.

I toss them into a wire basket.

I don't do this but I thought it was a nice gesture: a friend tapes any photo cards to her fridge and says a prayer for that family as she puts them up.

Years ago I bought a large, green, cardboard Christmas card holder wreath from a Current Card catalog, I think. Love it! It's about 3' x 3' and folds up nicely for storage after the holidays. It displays about 60+ cards. I hang it in the hallway right off the family room where everyone can see it. I just tried to find one and checked both the Current Card and Lillian Vernon sites, with no luck. I googled 'Christmas card holder+wreath' and found many decorative wire wreaths made for displaying cards, though.

Just today, my DH cleared out some file drawers and found about 5 years worth of cards, which we received, that he stuck in the drawer and then forgot. I didn't want to throw them out without going through for any photos or whatever. What fun to find all the photos of kids growing up right before my eyes. I even found one of kids I have absolutely no idea who they are - even with a printed family name on the card! I asked DH and he doesn't recall who they are either. How odd. I'm tempted to keep it just to see if we receive any more from these mystery people or maybe I can show it to other family members to see if they know them.

Also amusing, we received the same anniversary card from my in-laws for 3 years running, the same Easter card from my SIL 3 years in a row, and many other duplicates but some aren't dated so they might not have been back to back. But the funniest card is one "For a special brother and sister-in-law and wonderful children". We don't have children so the part is scribbled out with pen. That really cracks me up. My MIL & SIL only ever give relationship specific cards so I guess that year she couldn't find one that was for just a Special Brother and SIL.

I was tempted to re-read the xmas letters but decided to just toss them into recycling. I'm sure there are better things I should be doing with that time - like posting rambling thoughts here.

Hhireno, I save all the photo cards. They're packed away with the Christmas stuff each year. It's such a trip looking through them every Christmas when I add the new ones to the collection.

I have an enormous rectangular mirror in the dining room that I hang a smallish wreath on during the holidays. Then as the cards come in, I stick them in the frame of the mirror. Over time, the entire mirror ends up covered (I pull out a little scotch tape after a while) and it looks really sweet.

My kids love to see their friends' pictures up in the house...

Great ideas. I found today at a consignment shop a cute bronze basket that looks great on a end table. $5.00 and it should work for other mail thru out the year.

Last year, I had my cards on the door as natal showed. I think I copied her. :)

    Just saw this ad online.
    CUTE!
