I'd also be interested. We're a little farther along with our kitchen (cabinets coming this week, antique white painted, and soapstone counters to follow), and are trying to find a decorative tile backsplash. I've come across a few websites that sell moroccan tiles (sometimes called zillij or zellige) and have pics:

Ann Sacks also has a moroccan line

But these are very expensive (St. Tropez has a minimum of 50 sq ft and I think quoted me about $100/sf).

Another thing to consider is mexican handpainted tiles with an arabesque line -- try tierra y fuego . com for more reasonable tiles with a moroccan feel (but not from morroco).

I'd love to hear about anyone who has actually used any of these tiles. Yesdear has a beautiful spanish tile backsplash from Tierra.

Also look into Walker Zanger. They have a line "Alhambra" which is Spanish/Moorish and another line (can't recall the name) which are true Moroccan type. Not cheap but very beautiful.

Thanks, everyone! I'm on a limited budget, but my kitchen is so small that I think I can splurge a little here :) LC - thanks for the offer, but I think I'm thinking of a more geometric thing, like the zelij tiles. I'll look into all of these. Would still love pictures if anyone has any!

Another tile site which has reasonable prices.

About the only odd thing about using them for a backsplash - other than doing the entire wall and using shelves - is the dimensions of the tile and the pattern...

Tiles are mostly 8x8 and borders about 4 x 8. Your back splash is 8", 12", 16" or 20" tall or you have a lot of tile waste. Some have other dimensions like 10" x 10" this site has 20 tile packs for the price shown and a really nifty blue and white, but you get the idea.
