Stainless Backsplash

Are these stainless steel backsplashes sold separately or do they only come with certain ranges?

I had a piece of stainless cut to fit behind my cook top that extends all the way up to my hood. I love the ease of cleaning of the stainless backsplash. I did not want a spice shelf. I envisioned a grimy shelf to clean plus I store my spices in my dark, cool pantry.

Thank you for replying daytona1. I currently have a small stainless basket that the previous owners hung above my cook top that I use to hold my most used spices. I really like the convenience of it plus I'm not afraid of cleaning a little grime. I'm not saying you are I'm just saying cleaning it wouldn't bother me.

How did you attach your stainless piece to you wall and are there sharp ends to worry about?

I've seen it exactly as depicted in the pic as an optional add-on to some pro ranges. Sears has it, for example.

One of my fav inspiration pictures has it all the way up to the fan, with a shelf. Love the look - though I wonder if the fan is a bit high in the sky.

I personally like the shelf. My understanding is that they often works as warming shelves.

I'm actually fighting with myself over this. Most of the pro range backsplashes I am finding are in the $800 range - without the $3500-5000 pro range. And, they don't go up to the fan, they are basically 30" tall. Even with a regular range and trying to find some cheap workarounds, I figure this is going to add significant money over putting the darn microwave over the stove. But, I love the look. And, so there it is.

We ordered our 'backsplash' online from "www.metalbytheinch.com" - though it would have probably been cheaper yet to get it from the local sheet-metal fabricator. The cost for our backsplash was around $40, plus $20 for hemmed edges on the right and left. Shipping was around $25. The total was $85, and you can have it made to whatever fractional size you want. When we installed, we put 1/2" plywood behind, so that in the future, we have flexibility to screw in shelving wherever desired.

We used 430 stainless which is a lower-grade of steel that is magnetic unlike most grades of stainless, this gives us the ability to use any of those nifty magnetic holders.

Here's a shot showing the backsplash in our kitchen. We ordered the backsplash as 28" tall, and it sits on top of the lip on the back of the cooktop for an overall height of around 33". Its high enough so that none of us hits our heads, but just low enough to operate or clean the baffles without a step-stool.

My sis ordered one as an accesory to her hood. She has the shelf and the heat lamps. Try Jenn-air or Venmar in Canada. My DH installed it.

HD & Lowes has SS backsplash panels in stock. They are not expensive.

If you choose something with a shelf over the stove, keep in mind that it will get greasy as well as impair the air flow to the vent.

We're getting the DCS brand backguard with shelf since the shelf is slats, not solid, to let the air flow through, and the shelf is divided into 2 (or 3 for the 48" version) sections and removable for cleaning. It mounts to the wall so can be used with any stove of appropriate width, but is only available in one height. We saw it on display at a Standards of Excellence showroom. Very functional.

Steph, I'm confused by something you wrote.

"And, they don't go up to the fan, they are basically 30" tall."

Standard hood height is about 30" from the range/cooktop. The metal to which you refer would go to the bottom of the hood.

But it doesn't in my measurements - even in my small kitchen. It ends up looking like the OP's picture. I guess it depends on the height of the fan? Look at my inspiration picture - the fan is up at the ceiling, surrounded by crown. Same with the OP picture, minus crown. In both pictures, if the fan was lower, it would run into the shelf, and additional stainless is required above the shelf to finish it. Am I making sense?
