Catalyzed conversion varnish

I plan to have white kitchen cabinets. My designer has been pushing name brand cabinets because the color is baked on in the factory and has a catalyzed conversion varnish which he said local custom cabinet makers can't do because we can't have that varnish in California. However, there are a few painters here that are licensed to do catalyzed varnish but it is very expensive.

For those of you who did not have your white cabinets done in catalyzed varnish, how is the paint holding up, especially in areas around the knobs and pulls which will take the most abuse ?
