need an extra-long drawer pull

I have a bank of three really big drawers... 38 inches. Can I get away with one pull per drawer instead of two? I'd really like to be able to open the drawer with one hand. I'm thinking maybe an 8 inch pull? Of course, this is a problem because I don't think these exist... (exception the sleek modern basic pull that would not fit with my rustic farmhouse kitchen). Any suggestions for a traditional or old world 8 inch pull?

Maidielou, don't worry so much about mixing styles. Our hardware is either vintage pulls or old fashioned cast iron from Whitechapel, with which we mixed long simple drawer pulls for our 36" drawers. Had them made - Whitechapel does custom lengths.

Without your providing any details about the construction of the drawers and particularly whether they are mounted on slides (and if so what kind), it's not possible to provide reliable advice...

Restoration Hardware has longer pulls.

I have 36" drawers, single pulls. 8". Looks fine.

Yes--Restoration Hardware. Most of their pulls come in many sizes and are quite traditional.

I have two pulls on all my drawers 30" and over and I still use just one hand/pull to open the drawers. So far I've had no problems with this...even my 36" pot & pan drawers that are quite heavily loaded.

I think the key to having this work is good drawer hardware...good hardware should be able to handle it.

Kudzu9 and buehl- the slides are described as ball bearing with full extension. Probably moderate in quality.

Eliz- Your hardware is awesome... so are your cabinets- love the color! Your long pull would be perfect, but not within my budget. LOVED everything on Whitechapel website though. Wow! I will stay open minded about mixing styles.

Will also check the restoration hardware site...

maidielou - I just finished all my cabinetry hardware. I definitely mixed finishes and styles (thanks to many forum members' input including sabjmata!) - the widest drawer bank I have is 27" and I did 12" pulls on them. My hardware is a mix of RK International and Schaub, in polished nickel and ORB.

Top Knobs and Schaub have 8" pulls as well, if you wanted to check those out.
