Volunteer FAQ Editor Needed

We are looking for someone to help create an FAQ for this forum. While compiling information should be a group effort, one person would be charged with pulling it together into useful FAQs. This could mean a new document OR just pointing to helpful posts that are already on the forum. A good example of a helpful FAQ can be found here:Winter Sowing FAQ

If you have a desire to make this forum even better, have good writing skills and work well with others, please reply to this thread or send us an email Letters to Garden Web

    Here's a great start ...

Buehl has been filling that function on a volunteer basis for years, I'd say she's the absolute shoo-in candidate for the job.

It would be nice if she didn't have to keep reposting it...

    Sure, I'll do it!

We can start with the "Read Me" and "Stone Advice" threads...they're compilations of information and threads from various members.

The "Read Me" thread is linked in idrive65's post above.

The "Stone Advice" and other informational threads are contained within the "Read Me" thread.

It would great to be able to separate out the various topics into separate FAQ items...that way you don't have to wade through all the other info just to get to what you need/want.

It would be wonderful if the Read Me thread could be stickied at the top of the posts, rather than having to go to a separate FAQ area to read it.

Ccoombs1...I agree, at least for the "Welcome" part of it. But I think being able to separate out the various subjects would be very helpful.

Perhaps the "Welcome" could act as a TOC...list the topics w/a very brief description and then a link to it in the FAQ.

What do you think? That is, if GW can do it (stick a thread at the top permanently)...

buehl, I do hope that you sent an email to the link above "Letters to GW." Obviously, you should be the selected candidate. You are so organized.

And I DO think it should be a real FAQ page so that you don't have to keep posting your thread and we don't have to keep bumping it up! :-)

Other forums have official FAQ pages, not just a thread at the top of all the posts; it's way overdue on this forum.

I think that's a good idea Buelh. The question is...can they actually do a sticky? Not sure this software allows it. People genereally don't read the FAQ unless directed there. A sticky with links to the FAQs eould be fantastic.

I also hope they answer you. They had a plea for a FAQ writer on the koi pond board a while back. I was the only one who volunteered. I answered in the thread and also sent an Email, and got no reply at all from anyone.

It would also be nice if the search function provided links to FAQ entries as well as links to other posts.

Gardenweb is owned by ivillage is owned by NBC/Universal. Why can't pay be offered for this job?

I second the above post and say whoever wants to do this or is chosen to do this should get paid. I think it rude to assume that some (in their mind) "little kitchen woman" should work for free. When the owners of this site go to buy artwork for their office or decide they want someone to write their autobiography do they expect that for free as well? It's rude I tell you!
