Updated Kitchen Pics Dec 2010

There was a thread a week or so ago "Is your kitchen the same but BETTER" that reminded me I really needed to take updated pictures. This part of the room is "done" for now, but we have to work on storage solutions for the other side of the room. We just had French doors updated with blinds between the glass, which I still need to paint.

I know it's a bit quirky and definetly NOT for everyone--heck, it's BLUE, but we enjoy our retro home, and it works for us. Plus, we've been able to work on it in stages.

DETAILS:

Cabinets: BM Chantilly Lace Satin Impervo Waterborne, IKEA Gravyr hardware, had exposed hinges taken off, and washer cabinet built up by granite folks. If we ever build a laundry room--long term, I have shelving for that cabinet.

Walls: BM White Heron in Regal Pearl finish

Counters: Blue Pearl granite (gift from my Mom's estate)

Backsplash: American Olean Ocean Blues glas mosaic from Lowe's. There are some SS accent tiles behind range. I was able to DIY these.

Sink: Basic double bowl stainless 16 guage MRDirect Inc.

Faucet: Delta Saxony

Floor: existing ceramic tile with white grout from PO's. I have it cleaned and sealed by Stanley Steemer, and it's not too bad.

Appliances:

LG DW (have not had any problems in almost 2 years)

Samsung Induction range, got floor model for a steal

Big Chill Fridge in Beach Blue, used Energy Star rebate for it

Broan vent hood

KA toaster

Cuisinart SS coffee maker and can opener

Existing GE MW, works great still

Crate and Barrel basket above MW

Pot Rack: Enclume crown in hammered finish from Williams-Sonoma

Barstools: Allbarstools.com on clearance

Lighting: Lowe's

    Hi Gsciencechick
I just love your fridge. It is such a nice blue color and I would love going to it and opening it everytime. You did a terrific job updating. Your choices, the backsplash, granite and cabinets look so inviting and like a nice warm kitchen to live with. Great job and open and close that fridge for me!

From one (partially) blue kitchen to another: Go blue! :-)

Oh, how I love the look of those Big Chill fridges--never seen one in person though. Is it working well for you?

Great sprucing up. You have Euro flare with the laundry in the kitchen. I'm sure just having the built-in over the washing machine makes a huge difference. As I last remaining lover of partial inset doors, big BRAVO from me for saving them. Love your kitchen!

Cute and fun kitchen! Enjoy it!

Thanks for your kind words. The Big Chill makes me smile every day. Although obviously a bit of a splurge, it wasn't that much more than some other SS fridges we liked, plus the 15% Energy Star state rebate really helped make it work. It is a basic Whirpool that is re-skinned with sheetmetal, so the inside is very standard with glass shelves and a standard icemaker option in the freezer. It is around 22 cu. ft, so not that big, but it is bigger than the 18 cu. feet on the old one. The door handles do not latch; they are just pulls. I think that is not allowed due to safety standards.

LOL about being "Euro" for the laundry in the kitchen. We have no basement, so it has to go somewhere.

Love the "Big Chill" - no wonder it makes you smile! Great job...well done!!

From one blue pearl girl to another--

    LOVE YOUR BLUE!

I am totally digging on your BIG CHILL! Your backsplash is so much fun, too!

Thanks for the updated photos~everything looks so fresh and bright, and it SPARKLES!

I love your fridge too! Good update! One thought, have you considered getting an all-in-one washer/dryer? That would really free up some space in your kitchen. And it looks like you have the room for the larger capacity of the 27" unit LG sells. We recently downsized our stackable unit to the 24" all-in-one and have been super happy with the results. It's a little different, but the space savings are fantastic.

Great update! Love the painted cabs with new hardware, new appliances (how do you like induction?), countertops & BS, and of course, the beautiful blue Big Chill! I bet you smile every time you walk into your new kitchen--enjoy!

Wow! What an update! I, too, am lovin that Big Chill! Gorgeous color. Can we see a photo of the BS behind range with the SS tiles mixed it?

Congrats on a great looking kitchen. And on DIYing such a pretty space!

Love that refrigerator! Cute backsplash too. Enjoy!

That is one fun frig. I don't blame you for smiling when you walk in your kitchen. Great re-do... enjoy!

Love the updating you did...what a fabulous change. I would smile in that kitchen:)

That is a great re-do! I love how you were able to keep some elements of your original kitchen and build off them into something new and fantastic, really great creativity! I also love the personality you infused into the room. There is something so refreshing about a true "working" kitchen... it's the hub of a home, a place where life happens! Beautiful!

Compliments on that renewed floor. Coordination of those blue tones really looks intentional throughout the room.

THANK YOU to everyone! We really could not have done it without GW help.

xand83, we will need to look into that LG combo washer/dryer.

I love the Samsung induction and was pleased to see it rated high in my new Consumer Reports. There was a learning curve after the old coiltop electric--even DH adjusted well, but it's awesome. Our 13 lb TG turkey cooked in a little over 2 hours on convection roast, and tomorrow night for NYE I am attempting to roast a duck! I only had to get rid of a few nonstick pans that didn't work on it. There was a rebate through Samsung for a few Infinite Ciruculon nonstick pieces, so we use the large nonstick skillet a lot. The Emerilware and LeCrueset are fine.

Here is an older pic of the BS with the stainless accents, obviously pre-Big Chill.

Beautiful! So glad to see you finally got your robin blue Big Chill and that you are enjoying it--I'm still enjoying my boring white Big Chill but kind of wished that a colored one would have fit (probably in green--LOL).

I've always considered myself a green person, but now that I've been on GW a few months, I've really loved the blue ceilings, the blue islands and now, the BLUE fridge! And, how wonderful that everytime you look at and touch your beautiful granite, you'll think of your mom... Enjoy your new kitchen.

Thanks for the additional pic so I could see behind the range!
