Kitchen Sink Refinishing?

Has anyone refinished their kitchen sinks with one of those bathtub repair kits? If so, did it hold up well? Our sink is scratched and ugly...needs to be replaced or repaired.

I have not done it but I have seen a lot of refinished tubs. I cannot imagine the refinished sink finish would hold up with all the abuse a kitchen sink takes from dishes, pots and pans and utensils.

I had my tub done. I just checked their website and there is no mention of kitchen sinks. I've seen bathroom pedestall done but never a kitchen sink. I don't think it could hold up.

I had an old vintage sink done. It is in my laundry room so does not get the use a kitchen sink would. It already has a chip in it because a metal 25 ft. tape got dropped in it. I would not recommend it for a kitchen. If you could find a company that can re porcelain the sink, that would work. I believe there is one somewhere in the St. Louis area, but cannot remember the name.

Thanks for the replies. I've even considered using sandpaper to scratch the bottom of the sink so it's all the same damage level and pouring coffee/tea, etc. in so it's stained a nice toasty color to sort of match the granite. Hubby objects, wants to replace it. I hesitate because due to its shape, have to get the same kind and it's just gonna look the same in a few years. The sink in now is 5 years old and looks like it's 50!

I'm sorry for your problems. 5 years seems like such a short time for a sink.

What kind of sink do you have? (so I know what not to get!)

My tenant moved from an apartment where they used one of those kits. Every pan she had had white gunk on it from the sink surface. She said it looked terrible after they had been there a week.

Nap101-It's an Americast...seems like our allowance from the builder for the sink was $350 to $400...so it wasn't as if it was the very cheapest.

I don't think I'll try the refinishing. I was hoping that someone had had a positive experience. Thanks to all that responded.
