Lighting Ideas?

I am hoping to get some ideas for lighting in my kitchen. We are doing a kitchen remodel with new cabinets, and replacing appliances (except fridge). The island portion will be changed to be an island with table attached. The island portion (working area) will measure 60" wide x 30" depth. Then it will drop down vs. raise up like in current picture to be a table that measures 44"width x 54" length and 31" height. I am trying to picture how we should do the lighting. The first picture is my kitchen (from the MLS) and the second a picture I found of an island/table combo. In that picture you can see there are two pendants over the work area and then a slightly different one over the table. This was what I was thinking of doing but I also like the idea of a pendant above the sink area. We will shift can lights as needed. The pendants I am considering are 2 Jamie Young St. Charles large size (3rd picture)for the work space. Possibly a chandelier type for above the table, and then maybe the St Charles large or small for above the sink. I am also considering the Chadwick Pendant. Kitchen details will be: White Shaker, polished nickel hardware (RH Bistro), Satin Maroon Cohiba, 36" NXR range, 36" Whitehaven, dark wood floors, etc..
What are your thoughts?

I think it sounds beautiful. I do like the lighting setup in your inspiration picture, and I think the light you chose is lovely.

I was wondering if you have mocked up the area where the actual table and chairs will go (with chairs pulled out like people are sitting). Just a thought because I'm guessing (from the light in the picture on the end cabinet) it looks like there may be a door to the outside? If you have plenty of room to get around or don't use the doors much then go for it.

I was also wondering if you have planned on filling the space where the table is currently (if this was going to be it's replacement)?

    Good luck!

    Hi IowaCommute,

Here is a picture of how the space is currently being used:

I usually have the table turned the other way but in this pic I was playing around with position of the table. You can see that yes, there is a sliding glass door. This is being replaced and the opening switched. It will go from right to left and therefore will not be an opening that leads to the table. We have a dining room but it is never used except for homework and piano lessons/practice. The kitchen is our main eating area. I played with the idea of not having the table attached but this was the one thing my husband has insisted on. The island will have seating for 5, 2 on each side and 1 at the head. The way the table is now 36" wide we are fine and feel it will still be with the increase in width. The island is going to be 2" smaller then it currently is and we are going to recess the fridge (hopefully by 3"). We have basically lived with a table in this spot since we have lived here. It has only been a pain because the island has an over hang and the kids don't like to sit next to it. Since there will not be an overhang with the new island, I think it will be much more ideal. Thank you for the feedback!

Sounds great. It makes sense the kids don't want to sit next to a shelf coming at their head. I guess it would be like sitting at the table next to the kitchen door in the restaurant.

I don't know if you're keeping the table, but either way it would be neat (since the table space is next to the living room-I guess benches seem more furniture like to me) if you did benches on the sides or at least one bench and the rest chairs. I know you didn't ask so ignore if you're not interested.

I think it will be a really great space. Now I'm really interested in what you're doing (design wise). Have you posted about any of the design elements yet? I suppose I should just look for those.
