A tall plant in a large pot would look nice and bring some softness into your room. The one in the picture is a ficus.

I'd add a round accent table so you would have a place to put a book, a cup of coffee, or whatever. Then I'd add a floor lamp to give light to that part of the room. It looks like you could also use a rug, perhaps a colorful pattern or a neutral shag.

You could move the couch over a little more towards that direction and add both a floor lamp and an end table or an end table, table lamp and a tall plant, an add an area rug.

You could also make it a reading corner with a high back chair, end table and a lamp (either table or floor lamp).

Another idea is to add a bookcase (or floating shelves with books and other little odd things with no home) to that area or get jazzy and find a two-tiered bar cart and place a record player on top while storing some records down below (that is my plan for a corner in my home :) )
